Young Adult in Vocational skill training and Youth in Volunteerism GLONA Child Literacy and Numeracy:
Literacy is the skill of reading and writing, listening, looking and talking about pictures, and making marks on the sand. Music and rhythm are part of early child literacy
Numeracy is the ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide and use numbers. In early childhood, the development of numeracy

involves hearing the language of mathematics in play by singing number rhymes (One, two, buckle my shoe ..) fitting 'smaller' boxes inside 'bigger' boxes, 'same', 'different', 'fast', 'slow', sorting, pouring, measuring, – these are some of the numeracy skills which we encourage our children to develop. Why is GLONA Child Literacy and Numeracy Important? Children who do not learn to read, write and communicate effectively at the primary level are more likely to leave school early, be unemployed or in low-skilled jobs, have poorer emotional and physical health, and are more likely to end up in poverty and in our prisons. Literacy difficulties are linked to truancy, exclusion, social consequences such as alcohol or drug abuse, increased health risks, and greatly reduced life chances. The resultant impact on society is not just economic but also results in a negative effect on children's achievement of their full human potential. GLONA work with children and young adult between the ages of eight(8) to twenty-five (25) years who are coming from poor socio-economic background whose parents finds it difficult to keep them in school. GLONA Primary Healthcare
GLONA Believes that Good hygiene is an important barrier to many infectious diseases, including fecal-oral diseases, and it promotes better health and well-being. To achieve the greatest health benefits, improvements in hygiene should be made simultaneously with improvements in the water supply and sanitation, and be integrated with other interventions, such as improving nutrition and increasing incomes. Improving personal and community hygiene practices help to prevent the spread of fecal-oral diseases. in the area of community hygiene, most parts of African countries' wastewaters are not disposed of effectively, therefore, serving as a breeding ground for mosquitoes. People may also slip and fall in muddy puddles, and children may play in them and risk waterborne illness. Hence the need for GLONA to operate in the areas of food, personal, and community hygiene. At GLONA, our volunteers play an important role in our projects, providing much-needed help and individual attention is crucial for children’s growth and development. Volunteers will be participating meaningfully in projects that are valued by the communities with whom we work. The volunteers are accommodated with a host family with friendly, convenient, and safe accommodation at a reasonable price. Our Volunteer Coordinator provides support to enable you to settle in and help you with your new tasks on the projects. Volunteer meeting takes place weekly to manage the work of the volunteers, projects need and stories and experience are also shared. Volunteers should be at least 18 years old and willing to stay at least one month and more in Ghana. Volunteers will be placed on our one on one child teaching program with the objective of providing basic literacy and numeracy skill for children with basic academic challenges, therefore, preparing them to qualify into the formal basic education system in Ghana. Other placement opportunities include our one on one primary healthcare education on basic diseases prevention and control in the areas of food, personal, and community hygiene. Volunteers' cost includes accommodation with host families (1-2 people) or share room (4-6 people), room cleaning, in-country support, administration and security, airport picking in/out.
