Founder’s Story – Bright Botchway
From the Margins to a Movement of Empowerment
I was born in Agona Nyarkrom, but my roots trace back to Gomoa Adzentem, a small and often forgotten village tucked away in Gomoa East. I grew up between these two worlds—between the quiet resilience of my maternal village and the bustling, hopeful streets of Agona Swedru, my father’s land.
Life was not always easy.
I did not simply walk those streets—I lived on them. I know what it feels like to struggle for survival, to live without certainty, to be overlooked, and to wonder where the next opportunity will come from.
But I also learned how to dream.
Those early experiences shaped my deepest values: compassion, perseverance, humility, and purpose.
I saw young people with talent, energy, and ambition, but without the opportunities they needed to succeed. I saw women working tirelessly to provide for their families. I saw children and young people whose dreams were limited not by their abilities, but by poverty, lack of support, and limited access to opportunity.
And I made a promise to myself:
If I ever rise, I will reach back.
The Beginning
In 2020, I began a journey that would eventually grow into what is today known as the Center for Human Advancement and Empowerment (CHAE Ghana).
At the beginning, there was no office, no major funding, and no institutional recognition. There was simply a conviction that ordinary people, when given the right opportunities, can achieve extraordinary things.
I began with grassroots initiatives, including youth-led agricultural projects, mentoring young people, community engagements, and support for women and vulnerable groups.
The work grew gradually.
It was built not from privilege, but from purpose, sacrifice, community, and a belief in human potential.
On 26 June 2025, the organization was formally registered as a non-profit company limited by guarantee under its original identity, BB Humanity Foundation.
Over time, the vision evolved.
The organization needed a name that expressed not simply where the journey began, but where the mission was going.
That evolution gave birth to CHAE Ghana — Center for Human Advancement and Empowerment.
The CHAE Vision
CHAE Ghana is built on a simple belief:
Human beings deserve the opportunity to develop their potential, regardless of where they come from or the circumstances into which they were born.
Our work is therefore focused on creating practical pathways for people and communities to advance.
We work to empower young people, women, children, vulnerable groups, and underserved communities through programmes in areas including:
* Youth empowerment and skills development
* Digital and entrepreneurship training
* Agriculture and sustainable livelihoods
* Public health education
* Gender and social inclusion
* Environmental sustainability and climate action
* Community development
* Education and mentorship
* Vocational and technical skills
* Enterprise development and economic empowerment
Our goal is not simply to provide temporary assistance.
Our goal is to create capacity.
We want people to acquire knowledge, develop skills, access opportunities, build livelihoods, and become agents of positive change within their own communities.
From One Village to Many Communities
My connection to rural communities remains central to this mission.
I know what it means to come from a place that may not always receive attention or resources. I know the difference that one opportunity, one mentor, one skill, or one person believing in you can make.
That is why CHAE Ghana seeks to reach communities that are often overlooked.
We believe development should not only happen in major cities.
Opportunity must reach the village.
A young person in Gomoa Adzentem should be able to dream.
A young woman in an underserved community should be able to build a livelihood.
A child should be able to receive knowledge and support.
And communities should have the opportunity to participate actively in shaping their own future.
What CHAE Means to Me
CHAE stands for Center for Human Advancement and Empowerment.
But beyond the name is a philosophy.
Human Advancement means helping people move forward.
Empowerment means giving people the knowledge, skills, confidence, resources, and opportunities to become active participants in their own development.
And CHAE Ghana represents our commitment to making that philosophy practical at the community level.
The journey that began with a personal dream has become a collective mission.
The dream was born in the margins.
The mission now walks in the open.
And the work continues.
