Meet the computer science graduate who spent her final year teaching AI to sort your trash, and still graduated with First Class Honours.

At Rise for Impact, we have the privilege of working with remarkable young professionals whose impact extends far beyond our organization.

Today, we’re spotlighting one of them.

Chimzyterem Uche-Ukah, our Communications Lead, recently graduated with First Class Honours in Computer Science from City University, Ghana.

Over the past year, she has played a key role in shaping how Rise for Impact communicates its mission, programs, and opportunities. From crafting compelling digital content to strengthening our online presence, her work has helped ensure that our message reaches and resonates with young people across Africa.

But that’s only one side of her story.

Away from communications, Chimzyterem is a software engineer who enjoys building technology around real-world problems.

Her work spans healthcare analytics, AI-assisted learning, computer vision, and automation, each project reflecting a practical approach to solving everyday challenges rather than building technology for its own sake.

That mindset is perhaps best captured in EcoRecycle, her final-year capstone project.

EcoRecycle is an AI-powered waste classification and pickup platform designed to make recycling more accessible and intuitive. Using machine learning, the platform helps users identify recyclable materials while combining education, accessibility, and user-centred design to encourage sustainable habits.

What stands out isn’t just the AI model.

It’s the attention given to the people using it. The project was intentionally designed to be inclusive, ensuring that technology remains accessible to users with different needs while addressing a growing environmental challenge.

You can explore EcoRecycle here:

Beyond her technical work, Chimzyterem continues to invest in leadership and community.

She serves as Secretary of the NSBE Chapter at Academic City University, Website Team Lead for TEDx Academic City University, and is a fellow with AnitaB.org, Rewriting the Code, and Baddies in Tech, communities dedicated to supporting and advancing women in technology.

If you’re looking for someone who combines strong software engineering fundamentals with AI, thoughtful product design, and a genuine commitment to solving practical problems, Chimzyterem is someone worth knowing.

She is currently open to full-time software engineering roles, research collaborations, and opportunities to build technology that creates practical value.

Congratulations, Chimzyterem, on this well-deserved milestone. We’re proud to have you as part of the Rise for Impact team, and we’re excited to see what you’ll build next.

🤝 Stronger Together, Greater Impact

No single organization can transform communities alone.

The most meaningful change happens when organizations with a shared vision come together, combining their strengths, networks, and expertise to create opportunities that reach even further.

That is why we are proud to partner with AYSA Africa in support of the MAP4CHANGE Program, a youth-led initiative that empowers young people to identify community challenges, generate evidence, and champion sustainable, locally driven solutions.

At Rise for Impact, we believe that leadership is not only about creating new initiatives.

It is also about supporting impactful work, building meaningful partnerships, and contributing to a shared vision for Africa’s future.

Through this collaboration, AYSA Africa brings its leadership in delivering the MAP4CHANGE Program, while Rise for Impact contributes its growing network of young changemakers, community-building experience, and commitment to developing young leaders who create lasting impact.

Together, we hope to equip participants with more than knowledge.

We hope to inspire collaboration, strengthen civic engagement, and empower young people to become active contributors to the transformation of their communities.

We look forward to officially joining AYSA Africa brings its leadership in delivering the MAP4CHANGE Program, while Rise for Impact contributes its growing network of young changemakers, community-building experience, and commitment to developing young leaders who create lasting impact.
