Tasks:
🎯Help us cut wildflower meadow with scythe and learn about our culture and biodiversity initiatives
🎯Organize a series of activities for the local community in Nurmes, Eastern Finland
🎯Raise awareness via social media channels
🧤 Volunteers work 30-35 hours per week with two days off. Tasks involve manual cutting of wildflower meadow grass, helping maintain landscape of an open-air museum, building insect hotels, posting on social media, and other activities outdoors.
📸Get ready to learn about traditional culture and biodiversity, do insect hotel building workshops, run a social media environmental campaign, meet local community members and organize activities with them.
✴️Volunteer profile: We are looking for young people who can communicate in English in daily life activities. Interest in sustainability, nature, and outdoor activities are a plus. Openness to meet the local community and people with different backgrounds is essential. Age 18-30 years old.
🏠🍏 Accommodation and meals: Volunteers stay 14 days in Hyvärilä Youth Centre on the shore of Lake Pielinen, surrounded by forest and water. Accommodation in a forest cabin, 2-3 pers per room with shared a toilet. Shower is located in a nearby utility building. Meals are mostly vegan and vegetarian, served in the cafeteria. Prepare to cook food for your teammates on weekends! Volunteers clean their own rooms. Towels and bed linens are provided.
✈️ Transport: travel costs to Nurmes train station and back are covered by the ESC program according to distance. Transfer from the train station to Hyvärilä Youth Centre is organized by the hosting organization. Travel from Helsinki to Nurmes by train (7-hour ride!)
