April 18, the International Day for Monuments and Sites, is marked by the Effendi Villa team as a reminder of our collective duty to protect cultural heritage across the globe. In 2026, the theme highlights emergency response for living heritage in situations of conflict and disaster, emphasizing the vulnerability of cultural sites and traditions, and the urgent need to act when crises endanger the heritage that communities preserve and pass on.

For more than a century, Effendi Villa has welcomed remarkable guests — artists, thinkers, travellers, and friends from all over the world. Every visit leaves a new story within its walls.
And just recently, our dear guests uncovered something magical once again… 🎶
As they began to sing, the entire villa came alive. The acoustics proved to be absolutely perfect for opera — Italian opera, especially.
No surprise there… after all, Effendi Villa was designed by Italian architects.
The voices soared through the hallways exactly as they must have a hundred years ago — warm, clear, resonant. A reminder that some places aren’t just built… they’re composed.

A year before his passing, the world-renowned Georgian artist Lado Gudiashvili visited Effendi Villa — a place he had long cherished as a frequent guest of the family.
Gudiashvili held deep admiration for the villa’s architecture, its unique interior design, and the art it housed. In an interview, he emphasized the vital importance of preserving and restoring Effendi Villa as a cultural treasure.
He warmly supported the idea of reviving the villa and even expressed his wish to one day display his own paintings here, alongside works by other Georgian artists.
Today, his vision continues to inspire us as we work to honor and safeguard the artistic legacy of Effendi Villa.
