The Grenada Volleyball Association extends its deepest gratitude to our delegation who traveled to Tortolla British Virgin Islands to participate in the 2026 ECVA - Eastern Caribbean Volleyball Association senior Women and Men championships.
This tournament saw battles between top teams as completed for the number 1 title.
Despite our valiant efforts, our teams were unable to advance to the semi-final round. Our women’s team lost both of their preliminary matches against Antigua and Barbuda and the host country, the British Virgin Islands (BVI), ultimately placing 7th in the tournament.
Our men’s team displayed tremendous grit and resilience. After suffering a defeat against the newly crowned champions, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, the team bounced back to defeat St. Lucia in a thrilling five-set encounter. Unfortunately, St. Lucia later defeated St. Vincent and the Grenadines, securing their place in the semi-finals and leaving Grenada to battle the defending champions, Antigua and Barbuda, for 5th place. Our men emerged victorious in that encounter.
We had individual awards from Shevon Gludd who received best digger of the tournament and Jenson Mitchell who received best Middle Blocker of the tournament.
Notable mentions to our captain Darron Oxford who finished 2nd best scorer of the tournament and Jamie Jay Noel who finished 2nd best setter of the tournament.
Both teams competed fiercely despite being placed in highly competitive groups alongside some of the region’s strongest teams. Throughout the tournament, our athletes represented Grenada with pride, determination, and honor.
However, our participation was about much more than simply playing volleyball. We accomplished something far greater which is a renewed commitment to the continued development of volleyball in Grenada, with a particular focus on nurturing and developing our junior athletes and building a stronger foundation for the future of the sport.
We are also proud to highlight the achievement of two of our referees, Shakera Collymore and Evan Smith, who successfully completed and were certified through an international refereeing course. Their accomplishment represents another important step in strengthening our technical officials and elevating the overall standard of volleyball in Grenada.
While the results may not have been exactly what we hoped for, the experience, development, resilience, and commitment demonstrated by our teams and officials are victories in themselves. We leave the tournament motivated to continue building, improving, and representing Grenada with pride on every stage.
As we bring our season to a close we would like to express gratitude to everyone who contributed to our volleyball programs this year, do not count us out as we remain steadfast in developing the sport and raising the standard.
