Message from the President
Barbados Council for the Disabled
Month of the Disabled 2026

Theme: โ€œBCD 50: Honouring the Struggle Igniting the Futureโ€

As we welcome the month of March, recognized nationally as the Month of the Disabled, the Barbados Council for the Disabled pauses with great pride and gratitude to reflect on fifty years of advocacy, partnership, and progress toward a more inclusive Barbados.

This year holds special significance as we commemorate our 50th Anniversary, a milestone that honours not only the achievements of the Council, but the resilience of persons with disabilities, the commitment of families, the vision of our founders, and the unwavering support of countless partners, volunteers, donors, and advocates who have walked this journey with us.
From humble beginnings grounded in advocacy for dignity and equal opportunity, the BCD has helped shape national conversations and practical action toward accessibility, inclusion, and empowerment. Among our most impactful milestones are:
โ€ข The advancement of accessibility standards through initiatives such as the Fully Accessible Barbados Programme, promoting universal design across tourism, public spaces, and services.
โ€ข Sustained advocacy for inclusive education, employment opportunities, and public awareness initiatives that affirm the rights and potential of persons with disabilities.
โ€ข Strong partnerships with government, civil society, the private sector, and international allies that continue to expand opportunities and visibility for persons with disabilities.
โ€ข Continued leadership in policy dialogue contributing to the strengthening of disability rights frameworks in Barbados.
Yet while we celebrate progress, we remain mindful of the struggles that brought us here, struggles for recognition, access, independence, and equal participation. These experiences guide our mission today and fuel our determination for tomorrow.
Our anniversary theme, โ€œHonouring the Struggle Igniting the Future,โ€ calls on all Barbadians to reflect on how far we have come while recommitting ourselves to building a society where accessibility and inclusion are not afterthoughts but standard practice.

This digital transition marks a first for Grenada and represents a significant step in the Governmentโ€™s broader digital transformation agenda to enhance the delivery of public services.

The online system became fully operational on March 1, 2026. It allows travelers to complete mandatory entry information before arrival, reducing wait times and ensuring faster, more efficient processing at ports of entry. This shift offers a seamless experience and improves overall service quality for visitors and returning nationals alike.

The platform is built around three key principles:

Ease of use โ€“ A simple, intuitive online interface that streamlines form submission.

Enhanced security โ€“ Stateโ€‘ofโ€‘theโ€‘art encryption and robust data protection safeguards.

Compliance with international standards โ€“ Alignment with global travel requirements, reinforcing Grenadaโ€™s position as a modern and traveler-focused destination that prioritizes safety and security.

The online platform will guide users with an intuitive interface that ensures a smooth, quick submission process. Security is a top priority, employing state-of-the-art encryption and data protection measures to safeguard travelers' personal information, so you can be confident that your data remains private.

Travelers are encouraged to complete the form before travel -preferably one day prior to departure or before leaving their port of embarkation - by visiting edcard.gov.gd.
