James Cook is best known for giving young people the chance to experience Adventure under Sail, but she also welcomes adult and community groups on board.

Recently, we were pleased to welcome members from York Vikings Rotary and Berwick Rotary for a weekend voyage.

Both clubs generously fund places for young people to sail with OYT North each year, helping more young people benefit from the confidence, teamwork and new experiences that come with Adventure under Sail.

Trips like this are a great way for supporters and community groups to experience life on board, understand more about OYT North’s work and enjoy time together as a crew.

Thank you to both Rotary Clubs for joining us again and for being part of the OYT North community.

York Vikings dedicated to attending Rotary meetings travelled to Krakow, Poland! We were warmly welcomed by Krakow Wawel Rotary. It was President handover meeting and the outgoing President Waclaw Obloza handing over to President Elect Andrzej Sulkowski. York Vikings were delighted to be involved in their meeting and huge thanks to Bartlomiej and the team for translating the meeting for us.

Some of our more adventurous York Vikings ventured onto the James Cook sailing ship at the weekend. This is the same ship that we send 12 youngsters on each year. All having a fabulous time even though the weather and sea were a bit rough on Saturday. They smiled their way through and all came back full of their tales of the journey on the sea. Well done our brave sailors!!!

President Mick has recently returned from visiting two of the charities that York Vikings has supported, Smile Kenya and Funzi Bodo. He gave an update of Funzi Bodo's new science lab for the school. Ashley Peatfield of Funzi Bodo has just built a pharmacy for the island. Smile Kenya is a fairly new charity that is learning from Ashley with farming and self sufficiency for the village.

Huge thanks again to York Vikings Rotary for their wonderful donation for safety equipment for our boating Season. Their donation helps us keep safe whilst enjoying a range of activities on the Ouse including Pulling, Sailing, kayaking, paddleboarding and canoeing.

Thanks to club president Mick Fox for joining us on Swift , our pulling boat , as we take the new safety equipment out for a spin.

As the report says we are the only Sea scout group in the City and have been providing a varied land and water based program for the city’s young people aged 6-18 for over 90 years.

York Vikings Rotary are proud to have funded new safety helmets and buoyancy devices for the 1st Clifton (York) Sea Scout group that will help keep around 90 young people safe as they take to the River Ouse this year. They are the only sea scout group in North Yorkshire and have been operating for more than 90 years.

We are proud to support Hull4Ukraine by donating 38 CAT Gen7 Tourniquets. These specific tourniquets have been essential in the war to save the lives of injured soldiers and civilians.

We had a fantastic information packed talk from the York Muenster Twinning Association about all the fantastic activities enjoyed between York and Muenster in Germany. The group are currently looking to do an 18-20 year old exchange in collaboration with charities in York and Muenster. They operate a book club in both German and English as well as social events. York Vikings and guests enjoying a fun and fellowship evening of a Roving Dinner which involves having starter, mains and desserts in 3 different restaurants in York. A fantastic evening was enjoyed by everyone.
