The handset for our Safeguarding phone has sadly given up the ghost. Because this line is so important, we’re looking for a quick replacement. If any of our wonderful supporters have an unlocked smartphone in good working condition that they’d be happy to donate to YWCS, we’d be incredibly grateful!

If you can help, please email us at: [email protected]

A big shout-out to Debbie, who raised £240 for YWCS at a Tropic Skincare fundraiser she recently organised!

As a small charity, every penny counts. To put it into perspective, this incredible amount supports one volunteer counsellor for an entire year, which means one year delivering affordable counselling to a woman who needs it.

Thank you so much, Debbie, and thank you to everyone who attended and donated. Your support is really appreciated!

If you’re interested in supporting us by hosting your own small fundraising event, we’d love to hear from you! Every effort makes a huge difference and helps us continue providing vital counselling support to the women of York.

This , YWCS are proud to share that we’ve signed the York Citywide Volunteering pledge, showing our commitment to creating the best possible experience for our volunteers.

We truly value the time, passion and expertise our volunteers bring to our charity. We believe that volunteering should be a two-way street - benefitting our volunteers as much as it benefits us. We aim to provide an inclusive, stimulating, friendly and supportive environment for everyone.

In return for Volunteer Counsellors supporting a minimum of 2 clients per week, we will offer:

- A full, comprehensive induction
- Regular team meetings
- A contribution towards supervision costs
- Access to ongoing CPD workshops
- The opportunity to be part of an incredible, supportive team of women.

Are you a qualified counsellor or therapist looking to make a difference? We’d love to welcome you to our team. Find out more here: https://yorkwomenscounselling.org/volunteer

We’re continuing our celebration with another thank you!

We’re incredibly grateful to the team at for their kind donation of tea. This will not only keep our volunteers fueled and hydrated while they’re delivering their counselling and therapy sessions, but we’ve also included some lovely tea treats in special gift bags we’ve put together as a small token of our gratitude during Volunteers’ Week.

Want to volunteer in a team built on compassion, purpose (and great tea)? If you're a qualified counsellor or therapist, you can find out more here: https://yorkwomenscounselling.org/volunteer

This take action for good mental health - for yourself, for someone else, for all of us.

Even small actions can make a big difference and taking care of yourself is a great place to start. When you feel stress spike, try this grounding exercise to help.

First, take a moment to become mindful of your breath. Just a few deep breaths invites your body back into the moment, slowing everything down. Then, become aware of your environment and name:

5 things you can see
4 things you can feel
3 things you can hear
2 things you can smell
1 thing you can taste

Meet Laura, our brilliant supporter who's taking part in the York 10K on 2 August and raising money for YWCS!

Taking on a physical challenge like this is not just great for raising funds - it’s also a brilliant way to look after your own wellbeing. Regular exercise can boost your mood, ease stress and anxiety, and improve confidence, while knowing that you’re helping your community gives an extra sense of purpose and pride.

You can support Laura's journey and donate to her JustGiving page here: https://www.justgiving.com/page/laura-edwards-buildher360?utm_medium=FR&utm_source=EM&utm_campaign=lc_frp_share_transaction_transactional_--_page_launched_--_charity

Thank you for your support, Laura - we're behind you all the way!

“Mental load” refers to the invisible mental labour of keeping life running; the planning, decision-making, organising, remembering, and emotional support that happens every day. While everyone experiences it, research consistently shows that women carry most of this burden.

We’re inviting women to share their experiences of the mental and emotional load they carry.

Do you find yourself managing conflict at work or at home? Feeling drained by constant small decisions? Supporting others, even when you’re already overwhelmed?

Your story could help us understand the impact of this invisible burden, and to raise awareness, and create lasting change.

You’re welcome to share your story anonymously.
