York Women's Counselling Service has two placement openings for trainee counsellors and psychotherapists who are passionate about making a difference and looking to gain hands-on experience.

Applications for our next intake are now open!

Key details:
- Candidates must be enrolled on a BACP or UKCP accredited core practitioner counselling course (Level 4 minimum), such as a Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling or Psychotherapy equivalent.
- Following your induction, you will be expected to support a minimum of two clients per week.
- The deadline for applications is 26 October 2026. We aim to agree on start dates for later in 2026 once the recruitment and onboarding process is complete.

Our charity quiz night is back by popular demand!

This year we're pleased to be joined by our wonderful co-hosts, The Girls Club York.

Get your team together and join us for an exciting evening of trivia, prizes and fun - all to raise vital funds for York Women's Counselling Service.

Events details:
- Date: Thursday, 8th October 2026
- Venue: Yates, Church Lane, Lower Ousegate, York, YO1 9QT
- Time: Doors open at 18:30. Quiz starts at 19:00
- Refreshments: Full bar available on-site to purchase drinks throughout the evening.

Ticket options:
- Individual entry: £5 per person
- Individual charitable entry: £10 per person (incl £5 donation to YWCS )

- Coming with The Girls Club? Whether you're a pre formed team, or alone ready to team up, The Girls Club will have their own tables at the event, so you'll be guaranteed good company and a great night!

We're raising a cuppa in appreciation for Bird & Blend Tea Co.!

We've been ChariTEA of the Quarter for their York store, receiving a fantastic £850 raised through sales of their Yorkshire Rose store blend.

This money will make a real difference, helping us provide over 50 weeks of support to women who need our help.

Thank you to Andrea and the rest of the team at Bird & Blend York, as well as everyone who bought a brew - your support is truly appreciated!

Thank you so much to everyone who attended our Summer Celebration event at the weekend 🌸🍾

What an incredible day! It was brilliant to spend time together as a community and thank everyone - our much-valued volunteers, trustees and supporters - for everything they do for YWCS.

We're incredibly grateful to the Community Support Fund for their generous donation of £2,500 to YWCS.

At YWCS, we believe that everyone should have access to high-quality, affordable counselling for as long as they need it, regardless of their financial circumstances. Portakabin's donation will make a real and important impact, allowing us to fully subsidise 70 counselling sessions, representing the complete counselling journey for three women.

The value of Portakabin's generosity is best expressed by the women we support. As one recent client shared:

“I've been able to take on things I felt were too mentally challenging before and be able to weigh things up in a more balanced, grounded way… I feel I've made huge progress and the big problems I initially started with have been dealt with leaving me space to focus on other aspects of my wellbeing.”

Thank you to the Portakabin Community Support Fund for their kindness and commitment to supporting women in our community.
