Jesy Nelson originally known from the girl group Little Mix, has been fighting for future children born with SMA. After her twins were born and left untreated resulting in life changing disabilities which could have Been avoided with a Simple heal prick test at birth. Jesy managed to gain over 150,000 signatures and her petition was heard in parliament yesterday. The decision is SHOCKING.

Is it any wonder that families do not feel listened to. Families raising issues and sharing experiences is to better life for our future generations. This isn’t about criticism, this is about a better future which the government is supposed to be helping us stride towards yet we are constantly faced with barriers at every turn.

Families with disabled children should not have to fight at every single corner.

We talk about how the NHS is struggling, how the UK’s debt is worse than it ever has been.

Families with disabled children need life long medical care and support. Never ending appointments, equipment and intervention, not to mention the trauma, the pain and suffering that people are enduring on a daily basis.

This SHOULD have been passed for the whole of the UK.

It’s mind blowing! 🤯

The government has officially responded to our petition.

And for those who have seen it will see it’s a complete cop out.

But that will not stop us!
We will be continuing to push forward for changing benches to be installed in disabled toilets across UK.

But we need to get more vocal! We need to be making it clear how many people are affected by this!

You need to be sharing your experiences, signing the petition, following our page and pushing forward.

It’s time to push for that 100,000 signatures.

I have been working in the background networking with people who Make these changing on a daily basis and regardless of what the government have said I am not giving up the fight.

Today I took Ada for a trip to Homestead park. This is a beautiful park located in Clifton.

It was wonderful to find an accessible swing and an accessible round about for Ada!

While the accessible toilets sadly didn’t have suitable changing facilities for Ada it was lovely to find a park that did offer some accessible equipment for her.

The mini van that offered refreshments, snacks and ice cream , you can purchase a sample pot of fresh dairy ice cream for £1 which is fantastic for our food adverse little ones who can have the opportunity to try without a big price tag of paying for a full ice cream.

York city council are investing up to £925,000 in parks and green spaces across York to improve play equipment, access and facilities to create spaces that are fun, welcoming and inclusive for everyone.

York city council wants to hear from you!

So if you’re a parent to a disabled child or young person take a moment to fill out their Accessible and Inclusive Play Areas Survey and tell them what matters most to you.

Today has been an exciting day for our petition for changing benches for disabled children across the UK 🇬🇧

Today I had the opportunity to speak with Jenny Miller, Chief Executive Officer of PAMIS, the organisation behind Changing Places toilets.

I shared the work we’ve been doing to raise awareness, the voices of other families also affected by issues raised, the surveys i have completed locally and the proposal I’ve been developing to address the gap between standard baby changing facilities and the needs of disabled children who have outgrown them.

I’m pleased to say the meeting was incredibly positive.

We received recognition that this is a real issue affecting families and agreement that further exploration is needed.

we have the full support of changing places behind us.

The next step is to begin conversations with suppliers, occupational therapists and other key stakeholders to explore how enhanced changing facilities could potentially be incorporated into baby changing rooms in the future.

This is still very much the beginning of the journey, but today felt like a significant milestone and we are making significant steps forward.

A few months ago this started with just our experience and today we’re sitting around the table with the people who help shape accessibility across the UK.

💡 DID YOU KNOW?

City of York Council car parks contain information boards stating the three Changing Places toilets located within York city centre.

This information was recently shared with and I thought it was a great one to pass on.

Me personally despite spending a lot of time within York city centre I can’t say I’ve ever noticed these information boards myself however we are a blue badge holder so I don’t need to go to the pay & display areas.

So now I’m curious…

❓ Have you seen them?

❓ Did you know they were there?

❓ Have they helped you locate a Changing Places toilet in York city centre?

❓have you noticed them available in other city centre car parks and have you found them useful when visiting a new city or Visting York?

One of the things I’ve learned through this campaign is that accessibility information only helps people if they know it exists.

Disabled Toilets Are Not Storage Rooms
I saw this today posted by a fellow Duchenne parent at Pret A Manger, Trafalgar Square.

A disabled toilet — completely blocked with crates of drinks.
No space for a wheelchair.
No space for a carer.
No dignity.
No access.

For families living with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, accessible toilets aren’t a luxury. They’re essential for safe transfers, continence care, medical needs, and basic dignity.

When a business uses a disabled toilet as a storage cupboard, they’re not just being careless. They’re excluding disabled people. They’re breaking accessibility law. And they’re sending a message that our children’s needs don’t matter.

Accessibility is not optional. It is a legal requirement — and a human one.
If you see this happening, speak up. If you care about inclusion, share this post.

Every disabled person deserves safe, clean, unobstructed access. Every family deserves better than this.

What are we fighting for?

Disabled children often outgrow baby changing facilities by around 2 years old, but many still require continence, personal care or medical support.

Without suitable facilities, families are frequently forced to change children on toilet floors, in vehicles, or leave venues early altogether.

We are campaigning for safer, more inclusive changing facilities for disabled children in public places such as supermarkets, family attractions and community venues, ensuring every child can be cared for with dignity, safety and respect.

Because no family should have to choose between leaving home and meeting their child’s basic care needs.

You can support us make a change by signing our petition. We have over 11,000 signatures. Every signature represents a family who needs suitable facilities to be regularly available in our communities

Today we reached another incredible milestone of 11,000 signatures supporting the need for accessible changing facilities for disabled children.

Every signature represents a person who is experiencing the lack of suitable facilities.

Every share has helped raise awareness, and importantly disabled children and their families are being heard.

This milestone is about so much more than a number. It is evidence that people recognise there is a gap in current provision and want to see positive change.

Whilst we celebrate today, our work isn’t finished.

🚀 Our next goal: 12,000 signatures!

As our petition is quickly turning into a campaign, over time I have been videoing the baby changing facilities whenever we are out, I need to change Ada and changing places toilets are not available to us.

These baby changing facilities could be adapted to have height adjustable changing benches that also include older disabled children. But currently disabled children are not included in these spaces.

I believe that these spaces could be adapted to cater for disabled children too, which would also make them accessible for parents who are wheelchair users themselves.

Rooms like these need to be designed with inclusion in mind.

I believe there is a gap between typical baby changing facilities, and full changing places toilets.

Our petition for change has reached over 10,000 signatures.
