As Volunteers’ Week comes to an end, we’d like to thank our volunteers for all they do. 🙌 Without the commitment, kindness and enthusiasm, Carecent would not be what it is today.

Each and every day our volunteers continue to show up and offer their time and dedication through the good; the bad; the traumatic and certainly the unknown!

At the heart of Carecent is people - those who volunteer with us and make it possible to open consistently throughout the year and expand on the services we bring to those in need.

A huge thank you to all of our volunteers, and those who have volunteered with us in the past; today’s work would not be possible without your commitment 💙

Outreach 🛒

For the next couple of months we are closing on a Thursday afternoon and providing an outreach service within the city centre. Our team of volunteers are taking to the streets of York. 🚶🚶‍♀️

Equipped to signpost to external services regarding housing, mental health, benefits, substance abuse support services and much more; providing beverages and snacks and on those hotter days, ice pops, suncream and bottled water!

On Tuesday this week we had the lovely team from Vision Care in during our morning sessions: ensuring that those who needed and wanted their eyes testing were able to access easily and hassle free.

Those who are experiencing homelessness are less likely to access eye care and over 40% report having difficulty seeing which can affect their daily activities and overall well-being.
One individual said that he hasn’t had his eyes tested in over 25 years!

It’s so easy to forget things that we see as easily accessible, we actually take for granted.

Grateful that we’re able to provide a space for these drop-ins and for individuals to access alongside everything else we have going on within the service.

A belated post - but a huge thank you to St. George's, York for their continuous support not only for Easter, but throughout the whole year 🫶

This year they donated the ingredients to make a scrumptious full English as a bank holiday treat, followed by everyone receiving an Easter egg!

We hope everyone had a lovely Easter 🐣

As many of you know, we are so much more than a breakfast centre - we try to offer a sense of community and connect through the work we do and provide people with a space they can come to no matter rain or shine, whether they are in a positive or negative mood.
