Pictured with James is Muriel (84), a dedicated NHS worker of 30 years and the final member he will represent as Secretary of GMB Branch Y10. Securing a fantastic, confidential result for her today is the perfect note to end his casework on.

This brings a long chapter to a close. Since becoming a rep for USDAW in 2009 and joining GMB in 2016, supporting working people has been a genuine privilege for James.

Stepping down is never easy. However, to represent people effectively, you must be completely aligned with the values of the wider institution. It is simply the right time for James to step back, stay true to his principles, and pass the baton.

A massive thank you to the local committee and every member who placed their trust in him over the years. He will always be immensely proud of what Branch Y10 built together.
Solidarity always. ✊

🧠This Mental Health Awareness Week, let’s remember: no one should struggle alone at work.

That’s why we believe access to the right advice, resources, and support is vital. Whether you’re living with a mental health condition or supporting someone who is, always remember: you are not alone.

At GMB, we know that staying silent and pretending mental health issues don’t exist is never the answer. We encourage you to speak up, check in with your colleague and reach out if you need help

At GMB, we stand together to break the stigma around mental health and fight for safer, healthier workplaces where wellbeing comes first. 🧡

..and much more still to come! 🌹

:

and David Skaith just shared our regional success stories for the York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority area, and I will continue to share our local successes week by week 😊🌹

Best of luck to those standing in local elections tomorrow elsewhere - so much has been done that is great under a Labour government compared to the pitiful 15 years before us, and the gap between Labour councils and those run by the likes of reform has never been so large. Vote for hope and vote for the decent local candidates standing for Labour to do a good and steady job locally.
