We have received several emails recently expressing concern about speed limits and reckless driving on Narrow Lane, a road much used by walkers, runners, cyclists and horses, as well as motorists.

Our County Councillor, Naomi Bottomley, would like to hear from any other Wymeswold residents who feel the same.

Planted Christmas Tree in Wymeswold

Looking ahead to the festive season, Wymeswold Parish Council has been exploring the idea of a planted tree for the village on the Stockwell. The idea being that a planted tree will remain in place all year round and grow over time. This will offer a meaningful and environmentally conscious alternative to a traditional cut tree whilst still capturing the spirit of the season. The Environment Act 2021 requires parish councils to conserve and enhance biodiversity. A planted tree represents one small step in that process.

We recognise that other village organisations may choose to have cut trees as part of their celebrations, and both bring value to the community's seasonal atmosphere.

The Council have taken professional advice on the subject, and understand that planting a smaller tree would be more appropriate, allowing for roots to take hold and develop over the next few growing seasons. We are looking to include tree irrigation tubes and a tree guard as part of the plan.

Councillor Julie Banks-Evans is looking at the various options and is available to discuss any offers to sponsor the tree and also to gauge opinion.
