10,000 girls making themselves heard, one unforgettable night!

Guides and Rangers from our district joined thousands of other Girlguiding members at the Big Gig, with Kerry Ellis, JLS, Scouting for Girls and The Wanted keeping us singing and cheering all evening.

But one particularly special moment? Singing along to ‘This Is Me’ with Kerry Ellis and an arena full of girls. Quite something to be part of - especially on the eve of International Day of the Girl.

Having the confidence to be yourself. Feeling that you belong. Knowing your voice matters. That’s something we want for every girl, in our district and around the world.

Our voices might be a little quieter today. Our belief in what girls can do certainly isn’t.

Our existing Guide unit is bursting at the seams - which is a lovely problem to have!

With more local girls wanting to join the fun, we’re opening a brand-new Guide unit in Wotton-under-Edge and looking for volunteers to help make it happen.

We already have our main Guide leader, so we’re looking for people to join her in flexible, supporting roles. No previous Guiding experience is needed, just enthusiasm, a sense of humour and a willingness to embrace the occasional bit of organised chaos!

Please share - our new team members could be hiding on your friends list!

When District Commissioners become uniform models…

Some of our Wotton leaders got together with leaders from neighbouring Dursley District for a catch-up and a chance to have a proper look at the new Girlguiding uniform.

Dursley’s District Commissioner very kindly stepped up to demonstrate some of the new headwear options… and we think she may have found her calling!

There was plenty of trying things on, comparing favourites and, most importantly, catching up with our Guiding friends from across the district border.
Now for the important question… which hat are you choosing?!

Volunteers’ Week might be coming to an end, but moments like this are exactly why volunteers matter.

Kingswood Rainbows had a wonderful session at Wotton library a few weeks ago. They read some books, did some book related activities and then wrote a collaborative story. All the girls added their suggestions and then the final story was created! See below for the final edit, plus some of the fabulous ideas.

We had:
✨ magical forests
🧚 pixies
🐟 a fish jumping onto someone’s face
🌸 skipping garden gnomes
and of course, a bubble stream!

The creativity, confidence and laughter in the room were wonderful to see.

A huge thank you to all the volunteers who help create spaces where children can imagine, create and simply enjoy being children
