🎃 Sign of the Week: PUMPKIN 🎃

Halloween is just around the corner, which means it’s time for one of our favourite signs in our October Autumn series... pumpkin!

Pumpkins are a massive highlight at the centre this time of year! From scooping out seeds and feeling the smooth outer skin to smelling fresh pumpkin puree during cooking sessions, they provide endless fun and sensory discovery for our clients 🎃

Our clients recently went on an amazing trip to West Midlands Safari Park! 🚗🌾

Getting up close to incredible animals like giraffes, rhinos and lions was an unforgettable experience for everyone. From watching animals stroll right past the windows to hearing the sights and sounds of the safari drive, it was packed with excitement, curiosity and huge smiles all day long 🦓

Accessible outdoor trips like this offer our clients brilliant opportunities to explore new environments, engage their senses and make fantastic memories together in the community.

As part of our ongoing life skills project, our clients recently enjoyed a fantastic hands on trip to a local bakery to buy fresh bread! 🥖

Visiting local shops is such a brilliant, real world way to practice practical communication, make choices and manage everyday interactions. From taking in the delicious smell of fresh baking to picking out their favourite loaves and handing over payment, it was a wonderful, sensory-filled outing for everyone.

Building confidence in everyday community spaces helps our clients gain independence and feel connected to the world around them.

Today, our Client Care Development Manager Helen is over at Sixways Stadium for the Life Beyond School Event!

Transitioning from school into adult services is a huge milestone for young people with complex needs and their families. Helen is on hand all day to chat about how Myriad supports young adults with PMLD, answer questions about our specialist daycare services and share what life at the centre is all about 💙

Autumn brings so many wonderful sensory opportunities, feeling the cool breeze on our faces, watching leaves swirl through the air and listening to the rustle of the trees during our outdoor sessions and Forest Club!

Cruising along the Gloucester & Sharpness Canal! 🚤

What a brilliant day out on the water with The Willow Trust we had recently!

Our clients loved soaking in the fresh air, watching the wildlife and even taking a turn at the wheel! ⚓

Steering a big boat along the canal made for the best sensory adventure and so many happy memories.

🌾 Sign of the Week: HARVEST FESTIVAL 🌾

Autumn is firmly here, which means we are kicking off a brand new Autumn series for our October signs of the week! 🍂🍁

To start the season, our first sign is Harvest Festival, celebrating the wonderful season of gathering food, sharing and giving thanks, with Harvest Sunday taking place this weekend! 🍎🎃🍞

Recently we have been learning all about Spain as part of our ongoing understanding the world project! 🇪🇸🍊🍷

Our clients had a fantastic time diving into Spanish culture and exploring vibrant traditions from across the Mediterranean. To bring the sights, scents and flavours to life in a fun, tactile way, everyone took part in making their very own non-alcoholic sangria, chopping colourful fruits, squeezing fresh citrus and mixing up a refreshing fruity blend together! 🍎🍊🍇

Sensory activities like this are a brilliant way to make world cultures engaging and accessible for everyone, stimulating taste, touch, curiosity and conversation. 🍹✨

🏰 Sign of the Week: CASTLE 🏰

To round off our September Civil War theme celebrating the 375th anniversary of the Battle of Worcester, our final sign is castle!

Castles and strongholds played a huge part in the history of 1651. Learning signs related to historic places has been a fantastic way for our clients to explore local heritage, connect with sensory storytelling and build visual vocabulary together all month long! 🏰📜
