We were established in 1902, and are one of the longest-running Amateur Dramatic clubs around! SADC, one of the longest-established community drama groups in the country, stages three productions a year (March, June and November). We aim to cover the widest possible range of theatre: comedy and tragedy, classic and modern, light entertainment and challenging drama. While many of our productions in

clude music, our range does not include standard musicals. We strive to mount productions of the highest standard with a wealth of talent and experience across all aspect of putting on a production: on stage, backstage, costume, technical, design, publicity, directing and producing. However, there is always room for newcomers, including those with little or no experience. What we ask for is enthusiasm and commitment and we will give you support to gain experience and learn the tricks of the trade. SADC currently has around 50 members of all ages and backgrounds. Although we do not claim to be a social club, in normal times we generally have several social events throughout the year, which are publicised in our regular members' newsletter, TABS. SADC is a very friendly group and all are very welcome to take part in our activities.

Our next Let’s Act! acting workshop will be at 8.00pm on Wednesday 10th June and this month's topic is 'Less is More'. The session will be led by Michael Saunderson.

Performers can get stuck in the trap of inventing more and more things to do on stage thinking that is required for a compelling performance, but this can prove a distraction for audiences. Michael will be exploring how we can get out of this rut. By the end of the night, you will hopefully worry less that you are not doing enough!

Michael has been mucking about in the theatre for around 30 years. He has tried his hand at plays, musicals, Shakespeare, improvisation and for a short while as a lead singer in a band. Over the years he has learnt from a lot of wonderful people and loves to get the chance to share some of the many tricks and tips he has picked up along the way. He is a believer in taking the fear out of being on stage and just enjoying being in the moment of whatever is happening.

Join us on Wednesday 10th June for an opportunity to hone your acting skills and have some fun. Whether you are an experienced SADC member or a potential new member keen to find out what it’s all about, we look forward to seeing you there!

Have you seen our banners and posters around? Come and find out what they're all about!

Sheila Carr, one of SADC’s most experienced directors, has spent more than 30 years directing a wide range of productions for the company, including Arsenic and Old Lace, Never the Sinner, A Bad Dream, and The 39 Steps. Now she brings that experience to Honour, a smart, emotionally rich drama, with strong language, that offers audiences a compelling, contemporary look at relationships, loyalty, and the choices people make in pursuit of happiness.

The play has only four characters - Honor, the wife; George, the husband; Sophie, their daughter; and Claudia, a young journalist - but creates an intimate yet powerful portrait of family tension, shifting loyalties, and emotional upheaval. Every relationship on stage feels immediate, recognisable, and full of dramatic intensity.
Sheila says, "What makes Honour so compelling is its fresh and intelligent perspective. What may begin as a familiar situation soon becomes something far more nuanced, as the story unfolds through each character’s point of view."

If you enjoy thought-provoking drama, superb writing, and performances that truly connect, Honour promises an absorbing and rewarding evening of theatre. Don’t miss the chance to see this beautifully crafted production - book your tickets and join us for what is sure to be a memorable night.

SADC is pleased to introduce the cast of their forthcoming production, Honour by Joanna Murray-Smith. Directed by Sheila Carr.

David Mestecky plays George in Honour, which is his 2nd production with SADC, previously playing Sir Anthony Blunt in A Question of Attribution by Alan Bennett as part of Single Spies. As a young man, he did many plays at school and college. He has recently retired from his job as a Senior Nurse in Guy's and St Thomas' ITU and has rediscovered his love of acting in the theatre. He also has some well established Seyval Blanc vines in an allotment that hopefully will turn into drinkable fizz in 5 years' time. Pre-orders not at this time available, so do buy a ticket for Honour instead!

David sees George as clever, bored and self interested with an eye for the greener grass. Honour charts the effects of his decision making, but is it wholly a disaster?

Come and join us for this brilliant play that explores ambition, infidelity, love and loss, particularly from the perspective of three different women.

SADC is pleased to introduce the cast of their forthcoming production, Honour by Joanna Murray-Smith. Directed by Sheila Carr.

Helen Wieland is excited to be returning for her 3rd show with SADC playing Sophie in Honour. Helen was also in SADC's The Ash Girl (2017) and Present Laughter (2018) before studying for a psychology degree at the University of Edinburgh. Outside SADC, she has performed in shows across London - including a best-seller at the Camden Fringe - trained with the National Youth Theatre, and MC'ed for international competitions. During her university years, Helen also discovered a love for directing. When not performing, Helen enjoys working in education and mental health.
She is enjoying playing a character who has a strong arc over only a few scenes, and the debates about what love really means which the play prompts us all to think about.

Come and join us for this brilliant play that explores ambition, infidelity, love and loss, particularly from the perspective of three different women.
