After eight years as a software engineer, Jamie MacKillop, decided to trade code for compost.

A year ago, when Grand Junction’s food‑waste diversion pilot was about to shut down, he stepped in — self‑funding the van, the buckets, the bags, the website, and the entire operation — to keep the effort alive.
Today, Compost Junction is a one‑person, full‑loop service turning everyday food scraps into finished compost delivered back to subscribers twice a year.

A reminder that sometimes the most impactful climate solutions start with one person deciding to show up.
