Come Holy Spirit 🔥🕊

This Pentecost we gathered united together as one parish family - All Saints Woodham and St Michael's, Woking - united in worship, prayer and mission through the power of the Holy Spirit

On the day of Pentecost, people from every nation heard the good news together. Today, we pray that the same Spirit would continue to unite us, renew us, and send us out into the world carrying the love of Christ.

Though we gather in different places, we are one body, one family, and one parish in Christ.

"You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you." Acts 1:8

Mary, the Mother of Jesus, in the moment of the Annunciation.

The artwork captures a stillness charged with divine interruption: the angel’s approach, the light that enters the space, and Mary’s attentive, open posture. Nothing is rushed. This is consent freely given, obedience rooted in trust, and a quiet revolution begun without force or display. Open hands, listening eyes, and the meeting of heaven and earth reveal a faith that receives God’s purpose and allows it to take flesh.

O God, who chose the humility of the Virgin Mary to bear your Word into the world: grant us hearts open to your call, courage to consent to your will, and grace to trust your purpose when it leads us into the unknown; that, like Mary, we may say yes to your love and become bearers of Christ to the world; through the same Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Mary Magdalene's most defining role was in being the first witness to the resurrection and then being instructed to go and tell the disciples of this great news.

Here we see Mary Magdalene at the empty tomb. The artwork is set in the early light of dawn, within the stillness of the garden, where loss gives way to recognition. This is a moment of transformation: grief turned into witness, encounter becoming proclamation. Mary Magdalene is not held in the past but sent forward, entrusted with the first announcement of the resurrection. A gesture of recognition — a turned body, an outstretched hand, a spoken name — marks the crossing from mourning into mission.

Prayer

O God of life and resurrection, who revealed your risen Son to Mary Magdalene and sent her to proclaim the good news: turn our sorrow into hope, our fear into faith, and our silence into witness; that, meeting Christ in the dawn of your new creation, we too may be sent to bear the message of life; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Esther, shown poised before the king.

The artwork holds a moment of stillness charged with risk: Esther’s royal adornment and composed posture conceal the danger of what she is about to ask. Courage here is not loud or impulsive, but measured and deliberate — a resolve shaped by responsibility for others. Rich colour, careful gesture, and the sense of a threshold moment convey the tension of faith that steps forward despite fear, trusting that action taken for the sake of others may yet be held within God’s providence.

O God of hidden purpose and saving courage, who placed Esther where her faith might serve the life of many: grant us wisdom to discern the moments that call for holy boldness, and the grace to act with composure and trust when the cost is great; that, offering ourselves in your service, we may seek the good of others before our own; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
