The pupil and the wise old master. Alain Prost and Niki Lauda in 1984.

The Frenchman won seven of the season’s 16 races, including four of the season’s final six races, but that was not enough and Lauda became a three times World Champion by a mere half a point at the final round, the Portuguese Grand Prix. Prost won the race, but Lauda’s second place was enough to clinch the championship.

A rookie by the name of Ayrton Senna finished an impressive third in a Toleman-Hart…

2012 – Rosbergs first F1 win

nicorosberg claimed his maiden Formula One victory in dominant fashion at the 2012 Chinese Grand Prix, securing Mercedes‘ first win since rejoining the sport as a works team.

It was Rosberg’s first race win since leaving the GP2 Series six years earlier and a historic moment, as he became the first German driver to win a Grand Prix in a German car.

The victory also marked Mercedes’ first triumph as a factory team since the 1955 Italian Grand Prix, after which the manufacturer withdrew from Formula One for 55 seasons. Rosberg crossed the finish line over 20 seconds ahead of the McLaren duo of Jenson Button in second and Lewis Hamilton, who completed the podium in third.

After one of the longest development processes in F1 history, Toyota finally launched their car. The Japanese team had an entry for the 2001 season but chose not to compete, instead spending the year setting up the team and testing the car. Ove Andersson, the president of Toyota Motorsport, said: "Success is not a matter of money. It is about a good team working well together and getting everything right." December 17, 2001

July 29, 1990. Ayrton Senna held off a spirited challenge from Benetton's Alessandro Nannini to win the German Grand Prix. Starting from his customary pole position, Senna squeezed ahead of team-mate Gerhard Berger at the start and positions remained the same until Nannini emerged ahead of Senna after the pit stops. With an unlikely victory in sight, Nannini's tires started to suffer and Senna overtook him with 12 laps remaining.

August 18, 2002… In Hungary, Rubens Barrichello led home Michael Schumacher for an easy 1-2 as Ferrari secured another constructors' title. In an uneventful procession of a race, Ralf Schumacher finished third. Mika Salo was given a 25-second post-race penalty for an unsafe pit stop while trying to stay ahead of Pedro de la Rosa, 25 seconds! Talk about harsh penalties…
