Family organises charity Under 11s Futsal tournament in memory of Oxfordshire teenager Liberty Baker
On 22nd February 2015, the family of teenager Liberty Baker, was tragically killed when a car mounted the curb in June last year, will be holding a charity under 11s Futsal tournament at the Swindon Futsal Arena, on Bramble Road, from 4pm – 7pm. All proceeds raised will go to Brake, the road safety charity.
Brake’s work includes providing essential support services for families who are devastated by death or injury on roads, and campaigning to prevent casualties and make communities safer.
Organisers are looking for 10 teams to take part in the Under 11s 5-a-side Futsal tournament, where teams will play a minimum of four games in the hope of reaching the final. It costs just £35 to enter a team (maximum of seven players).
Liberty’s father, Paul Barker says “We are holding the charity Futsal tournament in memory of our daughter Liberty who was killed whilst walking to school. The tournament is a fitting tribute because Liberty always supported her brother, Finley, with his football. The support we have had as a family from Brake has been tremendous and we are very keen to raise some money for the charity as our way of saying thank you.”
Joe Fenton, Community Fundraising Officer at Brake says “Brake is extremely grateful to Liberty’s family for going to such lengths to support Brake’s work. The funds they help raise will allow Brake to continue its important work, supporting bereaved and injured road crash victims and campaigning for safer roads. If you too would like to fundraise for Brake please contact us to discuss any ideas you may have.”

About Brake
Brake is an independent road safety charity, originating in the UK in 1995 and now with domestic operations in the UK and New Zealand, and working globally to promote action on road safety.
Brake exists to stop the needless deaths and serious injuries that happen on roads every day, make streets and communities safer for everyone, and care for families bereaved and injured in road crashes. Brake promotes road safety awareness, safe and sustainable road use and effective road safety policies. We do this through national campaigns, community education, services for road safety practitioners, and by coordinating the UK’s flagship road safety event every November, Road Safety Week. Brake is a national, government-funded provider of support to families and individuals devastated by road death and serious injury, including through a helpline and support packs.
Road crashes are not accidents; they are devastating and preventable events, not chance mishaps. Calling them accidents undermines work to make roads safer, and can cause insult to families whose lives have been torn apart by needless casualties
