Wow ! We have just hit the 12 thousand followers mark, not bad for a page that was set up 6 months ago. Thanks to each and every one of you following. It would be great to get even more followers. If you know any friends, family, colleagues e.t.c who might be interested, please share the page with them.

Things have quietened down now for us after a hectic winter. Our voluntary seal wardens are now having a well earned rest, before the winter pupping season starts October/November. The rescue team are still undertaking the odd rescue of this seasons Grey Seal pups, the majority of whom have lung worm. Effective intervention and treatment from the team at RSPCA East Winch is usually enough to get pup’s treated for a release back to the sea. But, by and large this is a relatively quiet time for the charity.

We are moving into Harbour (Common) Seal pupping season. So, if you are on the coast, please be mindful that seal pups may be around. If you do come across one, please give it plenty of space, put dogs on leads and give our rescue team a call on 07706 314514.

To celebrate this post, here are some of our favourite pictures from the last 6 months.

Thanks to you all for following our page ! It really is appreciated!

💔 A fantastic photograph - but a horrendous story!

😕 This seal is one of many who were disturbed badly enough to stampede into the sea. This wasted their precious energy, likely caused injuries and could easily have had fatal consequences.

🦭 Seals around the UK coastline are subjected to an increasing number of incidents of human disturbance, finding themselves targets of unwanted attention from the land, sea and air!

🧑‍⚖️ This is why two very well-respected Committees recommended that seals should be protected within the Wildlife and Countryside Act, but the Government rejected their recommendations.

🙏 We urge the Government to rethink the decision they took and realise that it was unwise!

✍️ Will you sign the Give Seals Space Campaign Petition?

⚠️ Please consider joining the growing number of people who agree with us that the Government made an unwise decision and should now right that wrong: https://www.change.org/p/give-seals-space

✍️ Your signature will make a huge difference for seals… thank you!

An interesting read. All kinds of marine life affected.

Today, we launched our report “Hidden in the Haul: The true scale of bycatch”, exposing the devastating impact bycatch is having on UK marine wildlife.

Bycatch is when marine life is accidentally caught during fishing operations – and our report exposes the size of the problem.

The figures are alarming, every year fishing boats in the UK are catching:
▪ Over 10,000 seabirds
▪ More than 1,000 cetaceans
▪ Around 500 seals
▪ Over 120 tonnes of protected sharks, skates and rays
▪ More than 1,000 endangered Atlantic salmon

But due to limited monitoring and reporting, the data we have are likely the tip of the iceberg.

Bycatch is causing immense suffering to marine wildlife, depleting vulnerable populations and undermining efforts to recover our oceans. It also threatens the UK’s ability to meet legally binding environmental targets for healthy seas. Urgent action is needed accelerate measures to reduce and ultimately eliminate bycatch in UK seas and to improve monitoring and reporting.

If you haven’t already …..now would be a great time.

PLEASE if you have not already, SIGN/SHARE the petition to BAN flying rings to be sold and imported in the UK, to help save seals. Yearly our wildlife centre admits and rehabilitates these seals. Unfortunately due to how light weight they are, many are lost at sea and float on the surface and because seals are so inquisitive they will explore and get their heads stuck. This is SO easily avoided. Solid discs give the same fun on a beach without any chance of entanglement. We need to get as many signatures as possible before the 17th of June which is when discussion in Parliament will happen. Can you please help us?

Please can you share the Campaign Petition link again to as many as possible: https://www.change.org/SaveOurSealsFromFlyingRings

Last push ….let’s go !

We are all geared up to attend Parliament on the 17th June 2026, to meet Members of Parliament and secure action for our Save Our Seals from Flying Rings Campaign.

Please can you help us secure that action as we are just over 2,000 signatures short of our next target of 60,000?

We really do need to hit this target as it will place us in a much stronger position.
