We have 10 of these food crates for a local food bank who would like to take them 🧺

They have 5 main meals and a pudding with recipe sheets 📝

We wanted to check first which food bank would accept these and make best use of them by distributing? 🥰

We can drop them off so please tag any or comment if you run a food bank 🍅 🫛 🥕

🌿✨ EXCITING SUMMER NEWS ✨🌿

We are so pleased to announce that Obsessive Recessive Roots CIC has received Pride in Place funding from NEDDC to provide FREE outdoor summer activities throughout July & August! 💚

These sessions will take place on our land and are designed to get children outdoors, exploring nature, learning new skills, making memories, and enjoying free play in a relaxed and welcoming environment 🌳🐷☀️

We’ll be running a range of themed sessions including:
🧚 Fairy Day
⚔️ Viking Day
🎵 Music Day
🏃 Outdoor Games Day
🎨 Craft Days

Alongside these themed events, we’ll also be running repeat sessions of our:
🌱 Little Gardeners Club
🔥 Roots Rangers

🌼 Little Gardeners Club will include:
🌻 Planting seeds
🪴 Filling planters
🥕 Learning about fruit & vegetables
🎨 Gardening themed activities
🥣 Mud kitchen play
💦 Sand & water play
🪵 Use of outdoor play equipment
🌿 Free play and exploration

🔥 Roots Rangers will include:
🪵 Learning how to safely make fires
🔥 Campfire cooking
🌲 Bushcraft themed activities
🪥 Brushing our pigs
🥕 Feeding our pigs
🌿 Exploring and enjoying the site
🐜 Minibeast activities

Roots Rangers is also designed to be more laid back and child-led rather than heavily structured, encouraging confidence, curiosity, outdoor learning, and connection with nature 🌳

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Sessions are open to all ages if you feel they are suitable for your child. Please remember we are a fully outdoor site, so suitable clothing, wellies, waterproofs, sun hats etc. will be important depending on the weather ☀️🌧️

🍎 Free fruit & juice will be available at some sessions, and where we are cooking over the campfire, the cooked food will be provided as the free snack 🔥

💬 As part of the Pride in Place funding, we’ll also be asking families and children for feedback and ideas about how this funding should help shape the programme going forward. Community input is really important to us and part of making these sessions accessible and meaningful for local children and families 💚

🐽 We’ll also be running extra Pig Pals groups throughout July & August — dates for these will be released soon!

This is just a little preview before we release the full promotional material and complete timetable 👀

If your child has any additional needs, adjustments, or there’s anything you’d like us to know, please feel free to message us 💌 We’re always happy to discuss how we can accommodate and support children to enjoy the sessions comfortably.

Any questions, ideas, or suggestions — pop them in the comments or send us a message 😊🌿

We have been successful in securing this grant!!! We now have a range of themed summer activities for children planned in all free to attend. It will also be supporting more of our Men's Group pig pals. so keep your eyes peeled for the schedule coming up! 🤩🤩🤩

We also recommend other groups apply for this funding, its a great way to get your project going and get the attendees voices heard, please put thoughts across to influence how this money will be spent in your area 💪

Calling North Wingfield community groups - small grants available

As part of the Three Pits Pride in Place programme, community groups, clubs and organisations can apply for funding to help make sure local voices are heard - including in North Wingfield.

Two levels of funding are available, depending on how groups plan to engage with their community:

Passive consultation – a set grant of £100 for groups asking members or audiences to complete the survey at an existing meeting or activity
Proactive consultation – grants of up to £5,000 to support events or activities designed to promote Pride in Place and encourage survey participation, subject to justified costs

- You can also find out more (and have your say in person) at the North Wingfield Consultation Event:
- Friday 15 May | 5.30pm–7.30pm
- North Wingfield Community Resource Centre, Whiteleas Ave, S42 5PW

Can’t make it? Consultation events will also take place in Grassmoor (22 May) and Tupton (1 June).

🌱✨ Weekly Update from Obsessive Recessive Roots CIC ✨🌱

It’s been a week of varied weather 🌦️ but that hasn’t stopped the progress down on the land! 💪

🥬 Brassicas planted!
We’ve been getting our brassicas in the ground — cabbages, broccoli and plenty of leafy goodness on the way! These will be a big part of future harvests

🍄 Mushrooms
Our mushrooms are coming along nicely too! Watching them grow is always a bit magical… nature quietly doing its thing

🍓 Strawberries
The strawberry plants are looking strong and happy — we’re hoping for a sweet harvest soon!

💧 Rainwater system up and running!
We’ve also got our rainwater collection system set up and working 🙌 A great step towards being more sustainable and making the most of what nature gives us 🌧️➡️💧

🤝 Community power!

A massive thank you to everyone who came down to help this week. From planting to watering to just getting stuck in — this space is growing because of YOU 💚

🌿🐷 Pig Pals Men’s Group 🐷🌿

What a cracking few days we’ve had down on site! 💪☀️

The lads have been busy getting stuck into a bit of everything; tidying up the land, clearing spaces, painting, building, and setting up some new furniture to make the space even more welcoming 🛠️🎨🪑

There’s something special about working together outdoors… fresh air, good company, and a shared sense of purpose 🌳🌱

And it’s not all hard graft! We even had a bit of a sing song 🎸🎶, plenty of laughs, and time to just sit, chat, and enjoy being in nature together 😊

This is what Pig Pals is all about! supporting each other, getting hands-on, and creating a space where everyone feels comfortable and connected 🤝💚
