Whether you’re just beginning or fluent in French, we welcome all Francophiles with a passion for French culture. 🥖📚

We meet monthly at St Peter’s Pastoral Centre Hall, where you can enjoy fascinating lectures, starting at 7.30pm, with doors opening at 7pm for a friendly welcome drink. 🥂

Our annual Fête de la Bastille is back on Sunday, 12th July (12pm–5pm) at The Warren Centre, Micheldever Station. Spaces are limited so contact us shortly!

What to expect:

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝗼𝗼𝗱: A delicious French Garden BBQ by Wild Ones of Wi******er (think marinated sausages, Dijon chicken, honey halloumi, and French sides). Soft drinks provided, BYOB wine/beer!

🍷 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮 𝗳𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝘁 𝗟𝗲 𝗖𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗹𝗲 𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰̧𝗮𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗱𝗮𝘆! 🍇

We had a brilliant turnout for last night’s fascinating talk on Bordeaux, beautifully presented by Maryse Wright.

Maryse told us that it was part of England from 1152 after the marriage of Eleanor of Aquitaine to Henry Plantagenet - later Henry II - until 1453 when it was lost to France at the end of the Hundred Years War. She touched on its history as a port, both for the export of claret and, later, its importance during the colonial era and its involvement in the slave trade. The 18th century was its siècle d'or, when the old city was refashioned and modernised, something continued in recent years when its mayors, especially Jacques Chaban-Delmas - mayor for 50 years ! - and Alain Juppé turned it into the exciting tourist destination that it is today.

A huge thank you to Maryse, who pitched her talk perfectly in wonderfully clear French. It was an absolute pleasure to listen to!

What a treat!

Thank you to everyone who joined us yesterday for such a fascinating talk about the artistic links between Turner, Whistler and Monet. It was a pleasure to see so many engaged faces!

A special thank you to Pascale: her delivery was so clear and her pronunciation was a treat to listen to. We all came away feeling very inspired.

We look forward to welcoming her in the future!

Join us this Thursday, 16 April at St Peter's Church Hall for a journey into the world of light and colour. We are thrilled to welcome 𝗣𝗮𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗲 𝗱𝗲 𝗧𝗲𝗿𝘄𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗻𝗲 to discuss the revolutionary work of 𝗝.𝗠.𝗪. 𝗧𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲𝗿 and his profound influence on the father of Impressionism, 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝘂𝗱𝗲 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘁.
