The aim of Healthwatch Hampshire is to give citizens and communities across the county a stronger voice to influence and challenge how health and social care services are provided.

Digital barriers are a regular feature in feedback we receive. People told us that online-first systems can make services inaccessible, especially when they need to speak to someone directly or use a non-digital option.

One caller told us that he has communication difficulties and is on the waiting list for an autism assessment. He needs a GP appointment, but reception told him that all access to appointments is online and he finds this too overwhelming. He has a number of health issues and is only allowed to talk about one per visit, but he cannot get to see anyone.

'Boys and men often experience undiagnosed mental health issues, with behavioural problems in boys leading to poor lifetime outcomes.

Evidence suggests that boys and men are less likely to seek mental health care, yet su***de rates among young men and men generally remain high' (Department of Health & Social Care).

This Men's Health Week, lets ensure that mental health and physical health are equally valued.

If you are having an issue with your GP practice, the first thing you may want to do is speak directly with the practice manager.

Hopefully, you will be able to reach a resolution. If after this you feel that the situation is still unresolved, you may decide you want to raise a formal complaint.

Find out more about making a complaint to health and social care services on our website.

Urgent care services provide medical help when it is needed quickly but is not life-threatening, offering an alternative to attending emergency departments.

The NHS is seeking people’s views and experiences to help shape how urgent care services such as GP out-of-hours services, night nursing services and urgent treatment centres are delivered.

NHS Hampshire and Isle of Wight is reviewing its urgent care contracts as existing agreements come up for renewal in 2028, creating an opportunity to look at how services work together and how people access care.

The review covers services in Portsmouth, Southampton, and Hampshire. While Isle of Wight services are not up for renewal, feedback from island residents will help inform future service development.

It takes approximately 10 minutes to complete, is anonymous and open until Sunday June 21.

Alternative formats, including Easy Read, large print and translated versions, are available on request, alongside support to complete the survey. Please email [email protected]

While the Accessible Information Standard sets out clear duties, feedback we've received suggests that these are not always being applied consistently in practice.

For example, we heard that some people, including people with learning disabilities, felt that professionals spoke to their carer rather than to them directly.
