We are delighted that Family Business UK CEO, Neil Davy this week attended the first meeting of the Government’s new Small Business Regulatory Taskforce, set up to cut the cost of regulatory and administrative burdens on small businesses by 25%. Over the next eight weeks, members will develop practical recommendations for ministers. Neil will co-chair the workstream examining the impact of regulatory enforcement with Michelle Ovens, CBE of Small Business Britain; ensuring the voice of family business is represented at the heart of this important agenda. This reflects longstanding concerns about inconsistent enforcement, differing procurement requirements, and varying interpretations of regulation. Neil looks forward to helping shape a more proportionate, consistent, and growth-friendly regulatory framework for small business across the UK.
If you have examples of unnecessary regulatory processes, reporting requirements, or difficult interactions with regulators, we would be keen to hear from you.

Last week, Family Business UK welcomed around 380 delegates - family business leaders, owners, next-generation Members and advisers to our biggest ever Annual Conference.

As part of our 25th anniversary celebrations, it was fantastic to see so many family businesses come together to share experiences, challenge perspectives and explore the opportunities and challenges shaping the future of the sector.

What makes this event so special is the openness, generosity and willingness of our Members to learn from one another. Across two days of keynotes, workshops, discussions, networking and celebrations, delegates left with practical insights, fresh ideas and valuable new connections.

Congratulations to Jonathan Warburton on celebrating his birthday this week and marking an important moment in the continued evolution of one of the UK's most successful family businesses.

As reported by The Times, Jonathan is overseeing the transition of leadership at the 150-year-old family business, with the next generation of the Warburton family preparing to play an increasingly significant role in shaping its future.

Last year at the Family Business UK Annual Conference, Jonathan and his cousin, Ross Warburton closed the event with an engaging discussion on the enduring importance of family values, long-term thinking and staying true to the principles that have helped make Warburtons the UK's favourite bakery brand.

We look forward to continuing these conversations at as family business leaders come together to explore how they can shape the next 25 years of family enterprise.

Y is for Younger Generation Focus.

The future of the UK economy rests with the next generation of family business leaders. To ensure continuity and growth, we must equip them with the skills and support needed to lead through the challenges of the 21st century.

We’re calling for:
• A school for succession: creating a "Help to Grow: School for Succession" to provide high-quality management and leadership training for the Next Gen.
• Apprenticeship incentives: exempting employers from National Insurance for Level 4+ apprenticeships in leadership, management, and AI.
• Skills flexibility: introducing greater flexibility in the Growth and Skills Levy to allow businesses to fund the specific training their future leaders need.

By investing in our younger leaders today, we secure the legacy of British family business for generations to come.
