Can it? Can't it? Baffled? Our local recycling service is actually quite good... we can recycle much more than you might realise. And find out more about the new food waste scheme due to roll out in Willingham in October (I think!).

Please join us on Saturday at Cottenham Community Centre, where we'll be joined by Birgitta Laurent from the Greater Cambridge Shared Waste Service Greater Cambridge Recycles. Bring along your burning questions about what can and can't be recycled at home, what to do with tricky items, and to learn more about the new food waste system.

Munch, scrunch, and recycle!

Foil tip: You want to scrunch up enough foil into a tennis ball size to improve the chances of it being recycled. The bigger the balls the better.

Leftover chocolate? Try the Olio app where you can give away food to someone else to enjoy and reduce waste.

You won't believe this crazy figure... 🙈not the 80 million Easter eggs sold in the UK...
..but Brits admitted to THROWING AWAY 20 million chocolate eggs last year.😮 This amounts to about 3000 tonnes of food, which to grow used over 5 billion litres of water and emitted around 9000 tonnes of carbon dioxide.

If your household receives too many chocolate eggs this year, why not try the following:
🥣Melt them down and bake brownies. You can even freeze the brownies for later if you've hit peak chocolate!
🍪Break them up and use them like chocolate chips to put in cakes or ice cream.
❄️Freeze them! Yes, you can freeze them whole or break them into pieces and they will keep for about a year. This works best if you move them into freezer bags and cool them in the fridge first. When you get them out defrost them in the fridge overnight too.

Have you tried refilling your household toiletries and cleaning supplies?

Have you tried refilling your household toiletries and cleaning supplies?

Time for some 2026 numbers! My favourite cute diddy refills for attention. Quick reminder we did 349 refills in 2025.... Can we beat it this year? 💚🌿

January saw 27 countable refills (despite not having a pop-up!)

February saw 61 countable refills!

Lovely seeing returning faces and new. Thanks for all the support and see you at the Bushel Box again on 29th March (a week early as the 1st Sunday is Easter Sunday).

Did you know, you can bring your own containers to put your meat and cheese in at in Willingham? Just let them know before you start ordering and they can tare (remove the weight of) your container before weighing your chosen produce!

Here is John beautifully displaying my selection today in plastic free glass containers. I forgot one for cheese so that is wax paper wrapped loose in my reusable canvas tote. Bingo. John said it's becoming more frequent for his customers shopping like this and they are happy to support it. Thanks for supporting sustainable shopping!

I've been shopping at Highgate like this for over a year saving on average 364 pieces of single use plastic. That's just one person... Imagine if we all did that!

How did I work out the average? I pop in on average once a week [52 weeks] - sometimes I miss a week, sometimes I go twice. Each time, on average, I'll buy bacon and two other meat options [3 items]. Before I used my own containers I recall each item has a plastic/wax type wrapper and then in its own bag [2 single use]. These are then all put in another plastic carrier bag [1 single use]. 52x(3x2+1) = 364

organised an incredible event yesterday called the Imaginarium, it was busy and positively bubbling with possibilities. Lovely to find out more about the history and evolution of one of our neighbouring villages and share visions of the future.
