🌟 DORCAS Weekly Round-Up 🌟

It's been another inspiring week of partnership, advocacy, and community impact.

From celebrating the 5th Anniversary of Women of Grace, to connecting with health professionals at the Health Visitors' Away Day, and contributing to important conversations on health inequalities at NHS Confed Expo, we are grateful for every opportunity to support women, girls, and families across our communities.

A huge thank you to everyone we met, collaborated with, and learned from this week. Together, we continue working towards a future where women and girls are safer, healthier, and empowered to thrive.

When girls are protected, supported, and empowered, they have greater opportunities to thrive.

Safety, education, health, and wellbeing all contribute to a future where girls can make informed choices and pursue their goals with confidence.

Children are more likely to speak up when they know their thoughts, feelings, and concerns will be taken seriously.

By encouraging questions, respecting boundaries, and listening actively, we help children build confidence in their voice and trust in the adults around them.

Children who trust the adults around them are more likely to ask questions, seek support, and speak up when something feels wrong.

Trust isn't built in one conversation. It's built through small moments of listening, understanding, and showing up consistently.

Change becomes possible when communities understand why harmful practices continue and feel empowered to choose a different path.

Education, open dialogue, and collective action can help create safer futures for the next generation.

Sometimes a single sentence can challenge assumptions, inspire action, or completely change how we view an issue.

This week, members of our community share words that have shaped their understanding of safeguarding, protection, and advocacy.

True protection comes from helping girls understand their worth, trust their instincts, and feel confident using their voice.

The goal is not fear. The goal is empowerment.

When girls are equipped with knowledge, support, and confidence, they are better prepared to navigate the world safely.

School holidays can be an exciting time for children and families, but they also provide an opportunity to think carefully about safeguarding.

Before travel, take time to have open conversations, discuss safety, and ensure your child knows they can always reach out for support.

Preparation is one of the most powerful forms of protection.

Change doesn't always begin in government buildings or policy documents.

Often, it starts around dinner tables, in community centres, at places of worship, and in everyday conversations.

Every respectful discussion has the potential to challenge harmful practices, raise awareness, and create lasting change.

Every conversation matters.

Do you speak Somali, Arabic, Aramaic, Mandinka, Kurdish, or another community language?

Dorcas is looking for qualified interpreters and translators to support women and families in our community on an as-and-when-needed basis (zero-hours/volunteer opportunities available).

Your language skills can help break barriers, improve access to support services, and make a real difference in someone's life.

Interested in getting involved? We'd love to hear from you.
