1st Wigton Baden-Powell Scouts

1st Wigton Baden-Powell Scouts Welcome to 1st Wigton Baden-Powell Scouts page. Keeping you updated on news and events. 1st Wigton Baden-Powell Scouts was founded early in 1998.

The Group is led by Julie Bryceson, who has over 30 years Scouting experience. Great emphasis is placed on traditional Scouting. We have three Beaver Colonies, two Cub Packs, a Scout Troop, a Senior Scout Troop and a Rover Crew (adult section). Each Section meets in Oulton Village Hall, Wigton, although many meetings are outdoors, particularly from Easter onwards, on our own land in Wigton. The gro

up has its own minibus which is used for camps, trips and other outdoor activities. Waiting lists are in place for most sections, but once a child is admitted to the Group, they automatically move up to the next section. If you are interested in obtaining a place for your child, please use the "Contact Us" link on this page and you will be sent further information.

Monday Squirrels were looking for dandelions, daisies and sprouted conkers. They still love the Horse Chestnut tree, even though little remains of it, it's a favourite area for them on Scout Land.

Beavers were busy learning about safety around camp fires and practicing the fire safety stance of going down on one knee. The fire was then lit and sausages were enjoyed by our keen Monday and Tuesday colonies.

Finally despite the bleeding canker which meant we had to bring most of our Horse Chestnut tree down its continuing to sprout new life! 🥰

Tuesday cubs were so busy we didn't have time for photographs! 🤦🏻‍♂️ After a very competitive game of hide and seek we got started with badge work. First Star cubs were learning their highway code and identifying different types of trees whilst the Leaping Wolf cubs continued practicing their Scout Laws ready for investiture. Two cubs achieved their First Stars! And one received his Friendship badge.

It's been a fantastic sunny week this week and all sections have made the most of that glorious weather by enjoying our Scout Land in Wigton.

Squirrels and Beavers were busy on conservation duties helping to clear and tidy the land.

Cubs were also working on conservation as well as other badge work.

Meanwhile Scouts were busy learning skills that they'll need for their upcoming summer camp in August when they go to Linnet Clough for a week.

Then on Sunday we held our first St George's day service in Wigton. St Mary's church was the venue and we had a lovely service, re-affirmed our Scouting promises and handed out top awards to our Squirrels, Beavers and Cubs as well as two Bronze DofE awards to two of our Seniors.

Happy St George's day to all Scouts near and far. Also Happy Birthday to 1st Wigton.

Well, it was raining at the start today but it soon dried up and out came parents, children and members of the public.

Our joint coffee morning with St Mary's Church was a huge success.

Children helped sell and serve, parents provided an absolute mountain of cakes and tray bakes and customers were very happy.

A huge thank you to all who supported the event by baking, donating toys, plants, or raffle prizes, and/or turning up at the Church.

The grand total made was a superb £474.49, which has been split equally between the Church and our Scout Group.

Why not pop in to St Mary's Church this morning for a nice hot cuppa and a little treat to help brighten up this dull spring morning. Helping to raise funds for the Church and the Scouts.

It's been a fantastic start to the week so far. Beavers have been sharing their collections as part of their hobbies badge and scanning maps to find new rivers for their Riverbanks ceremony.

Cubs were out on Scoutland for the first time this year (except for our traditional New Year's Day event). They had a great time cooking twists over open fires whilst the Sixers were cooking camp donuts as part of their Second Star.
