Student Midwives - Sri Lanka 2025

Hi everyone
My name’s Jess 👋🏻 wakesurfer, paddleborder, fly fisher, dog mum, ginger and farmers daughter at heart. On top of my part time job, house renovations and full time midwifery studies I thought why not throw in studying abroad as well. It’s fair to say I’ve never done things by halves but this is exactly what drives my passion to make a difference in peoples lives especially within maternity.

As someone who already has a passion for human and physical geography having received a degree prior to my midwifery studies, I found Sri Lanka as the perfect way to combine my two loves of supporting women through their transition to motherhood and developing my understanding of worldwide cultural differences and differing ways of practicing within medicine. (whilst also getting my nerd on looking at the pretty rocks 🤓)

Hi Everyone,

My name is Niki, I am a second year student midwife who is finally perusing my dream. I am doing this to make a better life for me and my daughter 💕

Next summer I am heading out to volunteer in Sri Lanka for 2 weeks with two of my friends. I am looking toward to experiencing a new culture and supporting women and families over there.

Being an advocate for women in my care is a big passion of mine so thank you so much for supporting us on this journey!

Hi Everyone,

My name is Shannon, I'm a mummy to two gorgeous boys, a small business owner and second year student midwife and I absolutely love what I do!

I have decided I want to volunteer in Sri Lanka next year to help support women and their families in a health care setting in a developing country. I look forward to discovering new perspectives and cultural attitudes towards medicine culture.
In my free time over there I will be volunteering around the island in different projects.

Midwifery and supporting women is a big passion of mine so thank you so much for supporting us on this journey!

Where will we be working in Sri Lanka ?

Balapitiya Base Government Hospital - This government funded hospital is the leading and largest base hospital in the whole of the Southern Province and provides services to over one third of the population living in the Galle district (220,000+).

Village Ayurveda Government Treatment Centre - As volunteers we will get the exciting chance to learn more about the traditional Ayurvedic medicine (also called Ayurveda) by spending one day at the special local clinic.

Ambalangoda Private Hospital - A small private hospital located in the nearby fishing town of Ambalangoda.

Hi Everyone,

As part of our midwifery journey we can take up a placement of our choice and we have decided we want to travel to Sri Lanka to volunteer in their maternity care, supporting women and their families.

We will be raising money to support are travel and buying materials over there for the women and their families such as toiletries, nappies, clothing.. Any and all support is very appreciated and we cant thank those that have already donated and supported us enough!
