Dr Bike session at Diggle Street Park

Get your bike checked and fixed for FREE!

Come along to a FREE Dr Bike session, where we'll provide bike checks, doing basic repairs, and provide any cycling advice you need.

The session is a drop in and is open for all ages, and there is no need to book. Just bring your bike along.

Friday night was the sixth and final Spoken Word event at Community Corner, before the doors close at the end of the month. The night attracted a vibrant mix of poets and spoken word artists from Wigan, Liverpool and Tyldeseley, besides the usual Wordsmiths from the Community Corner creative writing group.

Dani got the night underway with a tranquil acoustic set. Ambient music produced by SBHG resident Tim, provided an atmospheric background to the words of the performing artists. The audience were treated to brilliant live performances from Stew, Sam Batley (who recently had some of his material played on BBC Radio 6 Music) and Liverpool based Jards poetry.
Local poet Amy Rose magically brought the curtain down on a special night.

Special thanks to the residents of Damien John Kelly House who came down to support and perform.

Tea was drunk, cake was eaten and new friendships were forged.

This week was the last ever Creative Writing Group at Community Corner venue. What a joy it has been to see this group grow over the past few years. It started from just a few people with an inkling of an idea into regular informal friendly sessions, writing workshops and some very moving spoken word events.

You can catch them tonight for an evening of Spoken Word with improvised background music.

Friday 9th October 7pm - 9pm.

Readings by the Community Corner/SBHG Creative Writing Group.

Doors open at 6.15pm.

Brews, Soft Drinks and Cake. Vegan and GF options.

It might be autumn now but there's still plenty of opportunities to get out and about. We played a Finnish game Molkky after our park gym session last Wed which was fun, then on Friday the women's cycle group had a practice round the park and we offered out another bike.

I've been absolutely made up to hear women who havent cycled for 20 years (or ever) trying out little journeys around town to the shops, parks and appointments 👏 and both Anne & I managed to jog to the park too! Which is totally a first for me (Vic).

If you want to join the local wellness and activity whatsapp group just drop us a message.

The park gym session is every wed 2.30 to 3pm at Diggle Street Park and is open to everyone and the women's bike group has no fixed regularity atm but we will update on dates!

Our womens cycle group is back for another practice in Mesnes Park on Friday. Come along if you'd like to build up your confidence riding and meet some lovely ladies in the area.

We've also got some really low cost bikes you can try out for free.

Now the kids are back in school, our weekly womens group is back on at St Anne's in Beech Hill. We've had such a good time doing all sorts so far. Lovely Vanessa from Remade Wigan came and we painted together, creating art to take home. And then we've also had baby ducks, they were just the cutest little things! Really brightens your day 😊

If you're free on Tues mornings, join us. The kettle is on from 9am.
