🔺This post comes with a trigger warning 🔺
For three and a half years, EPiC HOPE has been showing up for Wigan & Leigh. We believe that su***de prevention work by our incredible, committed volunteers and staff is making a difference 💜
The latest Office for National Statistics figures show that 45 su***de deaths were registered among Wigan Borough residents in 2025, compared with 58 in 2024 and 54 in 2023.
That is 13 fewer registered deaths than the previous year. A reduction of approximately 22%.
We welcome that reduction with deep compassion, remembering that every person counted was someone loved, and every heartbreaking death leaves people whose lives are changed forever.
EPiC HOPE works in the heart of these communities, offering support and hope through our Crisis Harbours®️, Mobile Harbour, EPiC Men, EPiC Women and our wider community activities.
We’ve built places where people can speak honestly, be heard without any judgement and receive emotional and practical help when life feels overwhelming. Our work brings together lived experience, trustworthy peer support and non clinical crisis support, reaching people where they are.
We believe this work has contributed to the lives being protected in our boroughs. The relationships built, the conversations that happen and the support offered in someone’s hardest moments.
To our volunteers, peer mentors, supporters and everyone who helps keep our doors open and our Mobile Harbour on the road, your commitment matters. Thank you for helping us in this lifesaving work 💜
There is still work to do. Male registrations fell from 48 to 31, while female registrations increased from 10 to 14. That increase needs attention, and we remain committed to supporting women, as well as men and youth, across our boroughs.
To anyone struggling, you don’t need to have the right words or know how to solve everything before reaching out. We can begin with a conversation.
There is hope. There is support. And you matter.
