Meet our lovely Ella! 🤩

Ella was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes 8 years ago at age 20.

Living with Type 1 Diabetes can be tough but Ella is proof to us all that with care and attention, she can still live her life to the fullest.

Type 1 Diabetes means that the pancreas has stopped producing insulin, so you need to manually inject it before every meal, sometimes after a meal and before going to bed.

Each injection requires a calculation of carb to insulin ratio aswell as factoring in any exercise, body temperature and daily activities too!

Our book 'Is she allowed that?' helps children understand Type 1 Diabetes through Amyra’s lived experiences. If you would like order copies for your school or home, head over to Amazon or click the link in the bio.

That’s Ella’s and Amyra’s Type 1 stories - what’s yours?

Did you know that Tourettes isn't just swearing? 😱

It can be motor tics, vocal tics & premonitory urges too!

Symptoms don't always appear from birth either. They can appear later on in childhood.

That's why we've included My Cousin Has Tourettes in our books of belonging collection.

To help open up conversations for all ages.

Let's help celebrate Tourettes day together. 🩵

Order your book on amazon or by clicking the link in the bio (in the comments for fb)

What makes a place accessible? 🤔

In this video we share what makes a place more accessible for us!

Accessibility looks different for everyone and it can be life-changing when people are asked what accessibility mean to them from the start.

We'd love to know what your thoughts are so please share in the comments.

We would like to take this chance to say a huge thank you to all the people and businesses that make the effort in to making their place more accessible for all. ☺️

In celebration of Dementia Action Week, our team here at Happy Smiles CIC would like to share our memories with loved one effected by dementia ☺️

People with dementia can still be happy and certainly do still love you the same as before!

Hopefully our children’s books on Dementia, including the Dementia Hero Award-winning ‘My Grandma Has Dementia’ and our co-produced book ‘What Are Lewy Bodies?’, help to spread this message and awareness to children, young people and families!

Let's open up the conversation! Let us know your favourite memory with a loved one in the comments 👇🏼

A huge thank you to Mr Winstanley who presented us with a book which he has written called "What are Lewy bodies?" The book is approved by the Lewy Body Society and explains how the medical condition affects not only the person with it, but those around them in a friendly way.

ITV News is coming!…

…. to film my brand new ‘Do Disability Differently’ book project this Saturday at Leigh Library at 10.30am! 🎥

In partnership with Maddison House Press,
this project means so much to me because the book is being shaped directly by disabled children and young people, sharing real lived experience to help adults, families and professionals better understand disability and neurodivergence 💛

I would absolutely love to see as many families there as possible! The session is completely relaxed and drop-in, so you can pop in anytime between 10am and 12pm and stay for as long or as little as you’d like!

Whether your child wants to chat, draw, share ideas or simply listen, every single voice matters and could help shape a book that creates real change 🌍

And honestly… how amazing is it that local children and young people have the opportunity to have their voices heard not only in a future book, but potentially on TV too! 🤩

If you can’t make it in person, you can still get involved online here:

Please share this with families, schools and anyone who would love to be part of something really unique!

It's Dementia Action Week, so we'd like to share our books on this topic! 📚

We have two picture books that have been inspired and informed by families and people with lived experience of dementia.

‘My Grandma Has Dementia’, our first book, which won the Alzheimer's Society Dementia Hero Award for dementia voice in 2021.

‘What Are Lewy Bodies?’, written in partnership with the The Lewy Body Society , co-produced by lived experience.

Both books are designed for children to open up the discussions in a friendly way to help understanding and spread awareness.

Have you been affected by dementia? Let us know in the comments 👇🏼

If you'd like to order your own books, click the link in the comments or head over to Amazon.co.uk.

We loved working with the brilliant team at One Fylde over the last couple of weeks, delivering a Train the Trainer course on Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training Tier 2 Facilitation!

It’s great to work in partnership with like-minded organisations who share our values and our goal of Doing Disability Differently!

Thanks again and congratulations to everyone who will now be recommended to facilitate this important training.

If your staff or organisation require Oliver’s training, or you want to be trained up as facilitators or expert by experience co-trainers, get in touch!
