Halton & St Helens Voluntary and Community Action
This is the 5th year of the highly successful Halton Winter Coat Project.
Over the first 4 years the generosity at the people of Halton has meant the 5,000 coats have been redistributed to those in need and potentially saved many of these coats from landfill.
All good quality pre-loved coat donations are welcomed, with a particular push for men’s and children’s coats.

♻️ Giving medical supplies a second purpose!

We were contacted to see if we could repurpose a quantity of just out-of-date, unused, individually wrapped catheters, hypodermic needles and syringes.

We knew they couldn’t be sent overseas but what could we do with them? We didn’t want them to go to landfill, so after a bit of research we contacted Edge Hill University’s Clinical Skills & Simulation Centre who were delighted to take them from us for use by healthcare students to safely practise clinical procedures.

Yesterday we visited this amazing facility to hand everything over and met Emma Galley, Associate Head of Nursing, and Helen Nelson, who showed us around. Thank you!

From potential waste to valuable training equipment! ♻️👏

A great example of reuse, reducing waste and supporting our future healthcare professionals.

🔥🚒 FROM WIDNES TO NEPAL! 🇳🇵💙💛

We last night visited Widnes Fire Station, to present Widnes Cadets with £2,000, raised with the help of a District Grant, towards their incredible Nepal School Project.

This October, 13 Cheshire Fire Cadets will head to Nepal to help support the Shree Garma School, providing new earthquake-resistant classrooms and much-needed facilities for local children. 🏫

Three of those making the journey are Widnes Cadets – Jack, Liam and Emily! 👏👏👏

📸 Jack and Liam are pictured holding our cheque, alongside their fellow Widnes Fire Cadets, their leader Lara and some of our members. Emily unfortunately wasn’t well enough to attend – get well soon Emily! ❤️

With communities in Nepal having faced devastating flooding this year, their journey and the work they’ll be supporting feels especially poignant. 🇳🇵

🦽🩼♻️ 👓 Another collection complete — and thousands of lives will benefit! 💙🌍

Thank you to everyone who donated wheelchairs, walking aids, crutches and other mobility equipment. Your generosity makes a real difference. 🙌🏻❤️

A huge thank you to Upton Halton Community Centres for hosting our collection day and Widnes Vikings Rugby League Club for providing safe storage 🏡🏉💙. We will have another medical equipment day next year, so watch out for details.

Zen from PhysioNet has now collected the equipment (thank you!) ready to help people around the world, 🚛♻️ including 3,600 pairs of spectacles, bringing the total sent to York Ainsty Rotary this year to over 8,200 pairs through the Specsort project. 👓🌍

👓 1,800 MORE PAIRS OF SPECS FOR SPECSORT! 👓

A member recently visited the Rotary Club of Llanfairfechan and Penmaenmawr to collect around 1,800 donated pairs of spectacles for the fantastic SpecSort Project—bringing our total collected this year to more than 9,000 pairs! 💙💛

These glasses are sent to York Ainsty Rotary Club, where volunteers sort and catalogue them before distributing them overseas to people who may otherwise have little or no access to spectacles.

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who has donated old specs, as well as to the local businesses and organisations hosting our collection boxes. 👏

🌟 It was a privilege and a joy helping out at the Rotary District 1285 Disability Sports Day at Sutton Leisure Centre at the weekend, managed by Rotary St Helens 💙💛

Competitors took part in events ranging from weightlifting and table tennis to archery and boccia, with gold and silver medals awarded in every category – and each competitor received a bronze medal too.🥇🥈🥉

It was great to see 21 members of Widnes Fellowship Centre taking part again and all the competitors having such a fantastic time.

Lots of serious competition, encouragement and, most importantly, lots of smiles! 😊

Congratulations to them all for making it such a lovely day. 👏
