Nant Mill. Woods, waterfall, and a cold plunge. A great way to spend a bank holiday weekend.

Today our members and their families walked the trails at Nant Mill in Wrexham, followed the stream through the woods, and then did the bit most people would talk themselves out of. They got in.

Straight into the pool under the waterfall. Cold enough to steal your breath. Every one of them stayed in, laughing, cheering each other on, and stood under the falls like they owned the place.

And here's the thing. Not that long ago, a lot of these people would have spent this Sunday somewhere very different. Curtains shut. Phone off. Waiting for the day to end.

Today they were up early, out in the woods with their kids and their partners, doing something that took real guts.

That is what changing your life actually looks like. Not one big dramatic moment, just a series of days where you choose something better, alongside people who choose it with you.

A massive thank you to everyone who came along. The energy, the laughs, the way you looked after each other in that water. You should be so proud of yourselves, because we're proud of you. Same again soon?

If you're struggling with addiction, or someone you love is, you don't have to work it out on your own. This is what's waiting on the other side.

We see it every week.

People reach out just after a weekend, when they're at their most honest with themselves. They know the drinking, the using, the doing isn't doing them any good. They know they're not the ones in control.

Then a couple of days pass, and that voice in their head, the opponent, starts talking. "You don't really need help." "Everyone does this." "You're fine."

Before you listen to it, go back to those mornings. The ones where you were sat in a pit of misery, hating yourself. Where it was touching your work, your family, your relationship. Remember how that felt.

Don't let the opponent convince you everything's okay if you carry on.

If you or someone you know is struggling with any kind of addiction, reach out to us. We promise, we can help you get your life back and get you back in control.

Bank holiday weekend, Premier League back, Creamfields weekend. For Scott, that last one brings back some horrendous memories. Creamfields was four years ago this weekend, the same weekend he made the decision to go into recovery and change his life.

He'd been listening to the wrong voice for a long time, believing he didn't have a problem because he wasn't drinking every day. But once he started, he couldn't stop. He doesn't live like that anymore, and he's grateful for that every day.

The programme we've built can help anyone struggling with addiction or their mental health. It's 24/7 peer led support from people who've walked in your shoes. We've got spaces on the programme right now, and we keep our groups small because that's what makes the difference.

If you or anyone you know is struggling, you're not alone. Just reach out.

Relationships can either support recovery or make it harder.

A supportive partner, family member or friend can provide encouragement, stability and accountability. But relationships involving substance use, conflict, pressure or enabling can increase stress, cravings and the risk of relapse.

Recovery can change relationships. Some become stronger. Some need healthy boundaries. Others may need distance while new, healthier connections are built.

Rebuilding trust also takes time. It is possible, but it usually happens through consistent actions rather than promises.

Learning which relationships support sobriety, and which ones threaten it, is an important part of recovery.

If you're in recovery from drink and drugs and you have a partner who was never in addiction, you're going to have to be as patient with them as they were with you.

Take my journey. I put my wife through a lot over 13 years, and she had the patience of a saint. She cleaned up after me, defended me, lied for me, protected me and looked after me through 13 years of addiction.

When you get yourself into a good place, start becoming the best version of yourself, and your whole life improves, you've rewired your thinking. Now your partner has to do the same. They'll be thrilled to bits to have this new you - it's why they put up with you - but it's going to be hard for them as well.

So we need to be wary, because we'll start to get frustrated, and there'll be triggers - like if your partner accuses you of drinking or using when you haven't. It's not because they want to annoy you or have a fight, or even that they're doubting you. You've got to remind yourself that they are terrified of losing this new you. They've fallen in love with you all over again, and they don't want to lose you now they've got the best version of you.

So always try to stay calm, take that step back, talk to them and be reassuring. They've put up with you for how many years? Give them time to rewire their thinking - they're making new neurological pathways just like we have. So instead of reacting, we respond, and it'll be the same for them. Give them time. Don't lose it. Don't argue. Be patient.

One of the biggest things we're starting to see now is people on our programme who are implementing the tools - and while they're implementing them, they're learning so much about themselves.

Not letting anything that anybody else does around them affect their life. Not letting anyone steal their peace. They're learning that when they're in a good place, everything around them is in a good place - and not getting sucked into dramas and negativity that are other people's problems.

If you're struggling, or trying to stop drinking and using but you find yourself in the same circles, nothing's ever going to change. For you to go on and live a life free from the torment, free from the pain, the carnage, the misery, you need to change your surroundings, change your circle, change your habits - change everything about your life. And when you do that, that's where the true freedom lies.

If you need help, or anyone you know is struggling, reach out. We can help and we want to help. That's what we're here for.

IF DRINK AND DRUGS REALLY MADE YOU HAPPY...
WHY DO YOU HATE YOURSELF AFTERWARDS?

Think about that.

The cruelest part of addiction isn't the alcohol or drugs
It's the memory of it.

You spend days, sometimes weeks, chasing a feeling that never arrives the way you remember it.

You tell yourself:

"This one will be different."
"I'll have more control."
"I won't spend as much."
"I'll stop after a few lines."

But every addict knows how the story ends.

Another comedown.
Another sleepless night.
Another empty bank account.
Another promise to yourself that gets broken.

Another morning staring at the ceiling asking:

"Why did I do it again?"

Here's the truth most people never realise:

You stopped chasing drink and drugs a long time ago.

What you're really chasing is relief.

Relief from stress.
Relief from loneliness.
Relief from boredom.
Relief from anxiety.
Relief from reality.

Alcohol and drugs just pretends to offer it.

If drink or drugs was the answer...
You'd be free by now.

Not trapped in the same cycle.
Not fighting the same battle.
Not making the same promises every week.

Read that again.

If it worked...
You wouldn't need it again tomorrow.

Addiction is the only prison where people mistake the key for the lock.

Every drink/drug promises confidence.
Every drink/drug promises escape.
Every drink/drug promises happiness.

And every drink/drug leaves you wanting more.

Not because it worked.

Because it didn't.

That's why addiction is so powerful.

It doesn't sell you the drug.

It sells you hope.

Hope that this weekend will be different.
Hope that this time you'll feel complete.
Hope that this time you'll finally find what you've been looking for.

But the feeling never lasts.

The debt stays.
The guilt stays.
The shame stays.
The consequences stay.

And your life slowly slips further away.

The biggest lie addiction ever told you was:

"One more time."

The biggest truth in recovery is:

"You never have to do this again."

Recovery isn't about becoming someone new.

It's about becoming who you were before addiction convinced you that you weren't enough.

You don't need another drink or drug

You need another chance.

A chance to heal.
A chance to grow.
A chance to rebuild.
A chance to prove to yourself that your future is worth more than a few hours of escape.

Because one day you'll either say:

"I wish I had stopped sooner."

Or...

"I'm glad I finally did."

The choice is yours.

Choose wisely.

Your life depends on it.

Recovery is not something anyone should have to do in silence. So much of what keeps people stuck comes down to feeling alone with it, carrying shame, thinking nobody else gets it.

Our Saturday walk is the opposite of that. It is peer-led, which means the people beside you have lived it. They know the good days and the hard days. There is a trust that comes from that which is hard to describe until you have felt it. Add in the fresh air, the gentle exercise, and a bit of routine to anchor the week, and it becomes one of the most important hours of the seven days.

Still using, recently stopped, or years in, everyone is welcome. That is the whole point.

Are you fed up on that cycle of just drink and drugs, week in week out - spending all your wages, isolating yourself away, listening to this little voice in your head telling you you're not good enough, that this is what you deserve, that you're not a nice person?

That's just your survival drive. It's the way it's been programmed over years and years of substance abuse.

At Reset and Recover, we help you rewire that part of the brain. We help you see it for what it is and take control of your life. No more living in that survival mode, that fight or flight, that horrendous life of paranoia, depression and anxiety. We can help.

At the minute we're getting a high level of reach-outs, because the programme we've set up is working, and it's something Halton needs - the results speak for themselves. It's not a coincidence. These people are showing up, they're putting the work in, and they're in a phenomenal place. It's all testament to themselves - we can give them the advice, but the way they apply it is just amazing to see. They're creating distance, and you can just see the rewards that keep coming.

If you're stuck in that cycle, this can be you. You're not alone. Reach out.
