⚠️ Activation of SWEP due to hot weather ⚠️

Our Severe Weather Emergency Protocol (SWEP) has been activated today (Thursday 18 June) due to the hot temperatures.

It will remain in place over the coming days and will be reviewed regularly.

SWEP is a humanitarian response to provide support to rough sleepers in periods of severe weather conditions. There is no single definition of severe weather and as such we take a flexible approach when considering its implementation.

In hot weather such as we have now, our SWEP response involves our rough sleeper team providing refillable water bottles, suncream, hats and safety advice to people on the streets.

We have outreach teams working every day and will, of course, be speaking to anyone who needs support.

However, if you are worried about the welfare of any individual, please ask them to contact us on 0808 196 8140 during working hours or our out of hours number 01227 781879.

You can also report concerns to us directly using Streetlink: https://thestreetlink.org.uk/

Does the Carnival pass your business?
The green dashed line is where participants assemble in Tankerton, and are free to leave at the end (if not coming to join after party fun!)
The blue/purple line is the route of the parade, from the end of Pier Ave. In Tankerton, to the end of where Saddleton Road meets Canterbury Road, in Whitstable.
Joining in IN ANY WAY is optional! If you cannot take part in the actual carnival you can decorate to be part of it: window displays, balloons outside, anything to join the carnival spirit!
You can host a pre or post carnival party or event - use the influx of people to boost your business!
All this is independent of us so we don't interfere!
In the past businesses have run - 10% off if you're in costume/have a carnival sticker, a pre carnival tea time menu for families who want to go as soon as it finishes, a post carnival party for everyone on the streets having fun! Music, live bands, Whitsta-BUBBLE machines....
It's entirely up to you!
We will have flyers, posters, and programmes to drop into businesses in July.
Get your customers ready to enjoy the whole day, not just the 5pm - 7pm parade!
Carnival is ALWAYS on the first Saturday in August - this year that is the 1st!

Looking forward to the annual “unprecedented demand” announcement, caused by customers engaging in the reckless and unforeseeable behaviour of wanting water during hot weather. 🚰☀️😂

This year's theme is 'The Garden of England'. The orchards, crops, and woodland that make up Kent. The imported flowers that make our gardens colourful, the hops and vines that fill our pubs, the fruit and vegetables that reach our tables, and the wildflowers and wildlife that make our woodlands so beautiful! How will you celebrate!?
