Overview

SLOW stitch in our community garden where you can make nature inspired artworks in stitch and eco TATAKIZOME print

Yvonne Fuchs founder of the widely followed SLOW STITCH COMMUNITY introduces her thoughts, practice tips and techniques about this art form so that you will find a new way to be relaxed, happy and creative in slow stitch whilst in nature.

We are working in the Stream Walk community garden in Whitstable that is a haven for wild life and full of inspiration with vegetables and flowers in abundance.

There is a covered outdoor studio waiting for you with good access.

The workshop in retreat style is on theĀ 12th August 2025 9.30-12.30Ā at stream walk community garden giving time for mindful walks and refection and happy stitching for eveybody !

We will also do some eco printing using the TATAKIZOME method so please join our group for making fun items as gifts or self expression .

Suitable for beginners and those who want to deepen their practice.

All SLOW stitch materials are provided, but please bring a small sketch book A5 and pencil/pencil crayons.

Lots of places to find lunch locally and sit on the beach if you want to continue your stitching or just relax, but bring water and a flask of tea! Our tea hut we hope will be open too.

You are welcome to bring a basic stitching kit of scissors, variety of threads and favourite fabric scraps if you already work with this practice.

We will look at all the basics of SLOW stitching and work stitching on reclaimed fabrics from the inspiration in nature.

HOMEGROWN TOMATOES - what a treat! Here are two ways to keep that amazing flavour going through the winter.

Sun-dry your own tomatoes - you will not believe how the flavour intensifies, and then just explodes when you eat one. All this sunshine can be put to good use! Swipe to see our sun-drying rack.

Your own ketchup - so delicious with a bbq!

Come and try these at Stream Walk Community Garden on Thursday morning, when we will have our Tasting Table set up alongside our fresh produce stall, groaning with freshly harvested items from the garden.

The plums were so early this year, and they were finished before we knew it! However, there was just time to make two wonderful additions to the repertoire of what you can do with plums :

* Plum & beetroot chilli jam - a delicious accompaniment to any cheese board, or salad dinner, or anything really!

* Plum & chocolate spread - a recipe from one of our volunteers. Oh my! You just have to have a second spoonful after the first.

Pop down on Thursday morning and have a taste. Our freshly harvested produce will be on sale too - you can't get fresher than this! 9:00am - 12:30pm

See you then

Such exciting news .... Stream Walk has been granted a share of the National Garden Scheme Community Garden grant to build a new greenhouse/polytunnel structure. This will replace the crumbling ancient greenhouse we currently have. Thank you
