Tom started over a year ago as a Digital Skills volunteer. Being Autistic, Tom has struggled to feel included and to find a place that meets his needs within society. At BizEd Tom has discovered his passion for helping community, found other groups of people who share his passion and has been involved in projects happening locally as well as nationally. Recently Tom has been employed by BizEd, working on a youth database project.

“BizEd has opened up everything for me. Supported with doing my CV, having somewhere to go to and meet people every week, and volunteering has created opportunities for me.”

Aron came to us for support with his CV, then to a Code Your Future course delivered by Capgemini that we hosted. We saw his skills and immediately asked him to be a volunteer. We discovered he was really good at taking things apart and putting them back together again so we supported him to join Whitchurch Repair Cafe, start a Tech Repair Course and connected him with Galaxy Computer Services Limited to discuss gaining some experience in their shop. Our volunteers are amazing and we believe in supporting them into opportunities with us, or others.

“Wisp” is one of the young people that attends our youth tech club. They joined because they love photography and digital design and Tech club allows them to do what they love and learn new skills in different areas of tech. They meet industry professionals and discuss pathways into different careers, while developing key skills that are useful for applying for courses or future employment roles. We can’t wait to see “Wisp” does next, and hopefully they will return in the future to impart their wisdom to future tech club attendees.

“Wendy” came to us for redundancy support after unfortunately the business closed - she had been with the same employer for her whole working life.

She had never had to write a CV or scan documents and was also missing the social side of work.

We were able to help her by providing a welcoming space and digital support, a donated and refurbished tablet, a free data SIM from National Databank - meaning she could also access the internet at home.

Since coming to BizEd she now also volunteers with our outreach digital skills and jigsaw club. Wendy has also just secured a job and we are really pleased for her success.

We’re joining Good Things Foundation for by sharing one quote each day, celebrating the amazing stories of people connected to BizEd. 🧡
