The National Literacy Trust Yorkshire Coast are delivering free creative activities for families in Whitby, Filey and Eastfield, funded by our Community Grants 📚

The summer programme of interactive activities combines storytelling with craft and movement, for children aged 0-5 and 7-11.

Check out the post below for next week's schedule ⬇️

Next week, step into our summer of sport and stories!

Join us for free family activities celebrating stories, creativity and movement, with plenty of opportunities to get inspired - and maybe even show off a few dance moves along the way. Every child will get the chance to choose a free book to take home.

📍 Whitby Library - Monday 3 August
📍 Filey Library - Wednesday 5 August
📍 More Than Books, Eastfield - Friday 7 August

⏰ 10am – 11am
A story and craft session for children aged 0–5 and their families, inspired by Giraffes Can't Dance by Giles Andreae.
⏰ 11am – 1pm
Dance-themed creative activities for children aged 7–11.

From twirls and tango to hip-hop and happy dancing, we'll be exploring how stories can bring our favourite activities to life and help children discover even more about the things they love.

A huge thank you to Woodsmith Foundation for the generous grant that made these free sessions possible. 💙

What could a group of friends do with £250?

Mark, our Youth Community Connector for Whitby, has been working with groups of young people towards completing The Key+ Challenge. For the Challenge, each group came up with an idea, made a project plan and presented it to a panel for the opportunity to receive funding.

Throughout the process Mark has supported the young people to work as a team, build confidence and develop valuable skills. We are delighted that all 5 groups were successful in securing funding. They delivered strong presentations and responded thoughtfully to the panel's questions.

A huge well done to the young people for working so hard together and supporting each other over the course of the project!

A shoutout to our fab panellists, Daisy Bringloe (North Yorkshire Youth), Chris Johnson (North Yorkshire Council) and Mabel Mundy (Woodsmith Foundation) who gave up their time to be part of this project.
