Weston Whippets are proud to be taking part in the This Girl Can campaign of Let's Lift the Curfew.

Our team will be welcoming women to run with them on Thursday 29th October at 6.45pm for a walk or 7pm, meeting at The Manor, North Worle and heading off for a social 5k run through North Worle before heading back to The Manor for a drink and chat.

We must support women to keep active over the darker months and not give up this for fear of safety. Our club offers various safe and welcoming runs throughout the week.

If you'd like to come and join us, you can pop a comment on this post, email us at [email protected] or just turn up.

Our wonderful San-e is working extremely hard to get her lovely little parkrun up and running. Her fabulous team are looking for volunteers.

If you think you can help please do let the Jubilee team know on their post.

It is so important to support our children to enjoy physical activity and we are so proud of San-e and her team for working so hard to build this for our community.

Our runners have had a wonderful start to their October with so many of the team taking on various races.

We had a team head off to take on our local race Weston Super Half and 10k. Huge well done to those runners and our team who supported the water station too.

Half Runners:

β€’ Victoria got a PB on her Half with a time of 3:22 πŸ‘
β€’ Ben H took on his first event and came away with a great time 1:47 with 5 PBs along the route too πŸ‘
β€’ Sarah A absolutely smashed her PB by 19 minutes coming in at 2:29 πŸ‘
β€’ Zdeni ran the event again even though the toll road section is her nemesis and ran a marvellous 2:01 πŸ‘
We also had a handful of other runners who ran but haven't submitted their times to us to share - we are very proud of all of our runners. Well done to all of our Weston Half runners πŸ’š

10k Runners:
β€’ Mark ran a very impressive race with a sub 1hr finish as his goal. He came through at 0:56:27 πŸ‘
β€’ Amy B only finished her 5k course in August and has worked hard to get up to 10k, she finished at 1:14. Wow πŸ‘
β€’ DJ trained really hard with Amy and took on her first race coming in at 1:16 πŸ‘
β€’ Rosy took on the 10k too and finished in a fabulous 1:02 πŸ‘
Amazing running from all of the team. Some enjoying their very first races. You are an inspiration ✨️

We also had some travelling members who took on races and came away with fantastic times, great medals and huge achievement.

β€’ Kirsty A headed over to Cardiff and ran her Half in an amazing 1:59 πŸ‘
β€’ Simon L travelled to Dorney Lakes to take on their Half and came away with a brilliant time of 2:31

What an amazing team of runners. It is no mean feat to attend these events. The training is hard going, the run up can be frightening and just getting to the event is stressful. But, everyone taking part in all events did brilliantly. We are very proud πŸ‘

Congratulations 🎊

Did anyone read any of our September reads last month? What did you think?

Our bookclub met last week to discuss our September reads, and other books we've been reading. Have a look in the photos for some inspiration for books to try this month.

This month we are reading:
β€’ Daisy Darker by Alice Feeney (our horror choice)
β€’ Wrong place, Wrong time by Gillian McAllister (our timetravel choice)
β€’ James by Percival Everett (our black history choice)
β€’ The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides (members choice)

If you're a book lover and would like to join us, please do get in touch. We would love to welcome more readers to our group. You also do not need to be a member of the club.

Happy reading πŸ“š 😊

September has been a busy month for our runners, as well as our younger members returning to funetics after the summer break, and our half marathon course coming to an end, we have had a great number of runners out and about racing.

πŸ’š San-e ran the Somerset Levels 10k on 6th September and then Burnham Half Marathon on 13th September
πŸ’œ Ava from our Youth Team ran the Weston AC Prom Run on 17th September.
πŸ’š Mark G took on Cheltenham Half Marathon on 20th September.
πŸ’œ Roo from our Youth Team competed Chew Valley Reservoir Run on 20th September.
πŸ’š Carole, Karen, Kirsty D, Sarah A and Shelley returned to Windsor 10k on 26th September
πŸ’š Amy B ran an epic Loch Ness Marathon on 27th September

We are so proud of our runners, they are so committed to training and supporting each other.

Our club continues to celebrate the amazing volunteers within athletics.

We felt truly humbled to be among such fantastic volunteers on Saturday evening. There are so many brilliant stories of individuals supporting others and this is something that we will continue to strive for.

What an honour to come away with 2 awards relating to kindess and support.

It is such a privilege for our club to have Char and Karen in our team.

Please do read the England Athletics write up. We are so lucky to be surrounded by amazing clubs and their volunteers.

England Athletics Awards September 2026

We are extremely proud to share that our club won 2 Awards last night.

A huge congratulations to Char who won her award - Unsung Hero

Char was recognised for the work that she does within the funetics team, to support all children to have access to child led athletics in a safe, welcoming and secure environment.
Char was nominated by a funetics parent, who recognised and appreciated the support and care offered to their child, and to others. Char has a great understanding of supporting children with additional needs, and supports the team to recognise those needs and adapt sessions to make them easier to access and enjoy.
We are incredibly proud of Char and her knowledge allows us to be a better provider of athletics for children.

Thank you Char for all you do for the club - we are extremely proud of you.

And, a huge congratulations to Karen who won her award - Unsung Hero

Karen was nominated for her award by the club and was recognised for the strengths that she brings to the club.
Karen has recently qualified as a Coach in Running Fitness, and this is a role that she deserves to have.
Karen is one of the kindest and most caring people we know, she cares deeply for all who run with her, giving her time to listen, talk and support.
Karen has taken over the coach side of endurance training, offering so much of her time to support others to achieve. She is genuinely thrilled when her runners come through with their pb's or complete their runs or races and she is a natural confidence booster for all who come along to club.

We are so happy to have Karen within our lead team, and we know that she will always welcome every runner with open arms.

Congratulations Karen - we are so proud of all you have achieved.

Our club is very fortunate to be led by such a wonderful team of volunteers, who all work incredibly hard to ensure we continue to deliver safe, welcoming and athlete focused sessions to all from age 4.

What a wonderful club to be a part of πŸ’šπŸ’œβ€οΈ

Yesterday evening our brilliant youth team runners joined our adult trail team on their session.

We headed up into the hills, enjoyed the beautiful scenery, and the freedom of our lovely surroundings, supporting each other to complete the route.

We had such a lovely run, which was a little shorter than our adult route, but equally enjoyable.

We're all sad to see the light and bright evenings turn into darker and stormier looking skies. But, autumn/winter trail running is good fun 😊

If you have a youngster who loves running and would like to come and join us, please do get in touch at [email protected]

Wishing our newest runners the best of luck as they begin their 0-5k course this evening.

The club is very much looking forward to welcoming them and cheering them on through their course πŸ’š

Did you know that our running club is full of book lovers?

If we aren't running, or enjoying coffee and cake, we are usually reading!

We also have a bookclub that meets once a month to review our chosen books, and chat about the books we've read alongside pur club reads πŸ“š

This month we are enjoying:
β€’ The Berry Pickers by Amanda Peters
β€’ Babel by RF Kuang
β€’ The BFG by Roald Dahl
β€’ Dungeon Crawler Carl by Matt Dinniman

If you're a book lover and would like to join us, please do get in touch. We would love to welcome more readers to our group.

If you aren't sure what to read this month, have a look at some of the suggestions from our readers, they've added a little insight for each book too 😊
