UpCycle 🔧Bike maintenance workshops with prisoners across UK and Bradford youth
♻ Most refurbished bikes donated

MCF uses prison time to help people redefine themselves: we create and run bicycle and wheelchair refurbishment workshops in prisons, training people to NVQ level 2 in bicycle maintenance. These workshops provide meaningful activity to 125 prisoners each week in projects across 9 prisons and 2 young offenders institutions. Bikes and wheelchairs are donated by partner charities, or saved from land

fill. Each workshop has a qualified, experienced instructor, and MCF arranges for prison workshops to have a steady flow of items to repair, and the equipment to do so. Trainees learn to work as a team, to take instruction and to mentor one another. Once each bike/ wheelchair has been expertly stripped and rebuilt, MCF collects and redistributes them to partner charities which help disadvantaged people: around 250 wheelchairs and 1,100 bikes were donated in 2014 alone. As of 2015, we partnered with InCommunities (Bradford) and Achieve North West (Manchester: Approved Premises) to create 'Bikerys', self-financed, community based workshops taking traineeship referrals from various projects working with disadvantaged people, mending and refurbishing bikes for the public.

We feel so lucky. Every time we put out a request, our community responds with such kindness and generosity.

Thank you to MCF Bikery, Shipley, an amazing local charity who refurbish bikes and raise vital funds for their work with prisoners and young people across Bradford. Jamie called in today with some super trikes, which we’ll be getting out to families who really need them. You can contact them at https://upcyclemcf.org
We’re so grateful for their support.

Trikes aren’t just fun, they help toddlers build balance, coordination, confidence and get them enjoying the outdoors. These will make such a difference.

These are where our workshops take place. It is where we support trainees to learn practical skills, gain valuable experience and build resilience and self-belief!

Discussions like these are so important for us at UpCycle because they affirm that the work we do has a true impact on people who need it.👏

They also remind us that there’s still a lot of work to be done!💪

🌟 Behind every act of kindness, there’s a volunteer who showed up.

They’re the ones who give their time when no one’s watching. Who roll up their sleeves when others walk away. Who believe that change starts with showing up, again and again.

We don’t run on funding alone—we run on heart. On hands willing to help. On people who choose compassion over convenience.

To every volunteer out there: you are the heartbeat of this mission. 💙

Here’s a video that was done by the Ministry of Justice detailing our mission and sharing some our voices!

It is lovely to see the impact of our work on the local community, and we don’t plan on stopping anytime soon!🥰
