Established in 1992 to provide volunteers to act as casualties for WM Fire within their training, giving support and guidance in treating casualties

The group has gradually expanded and now supports a variety of emergency services throughout the UK

🚑❤️ WE PASSED! Team CPM is First Aid Qualified! ❤️🚑

We’re very proud to share that some of our CPM staff have undertook their Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work, have PASSED and are now qualified! 👏🎉

This training was the next chapter in our recent community safety project, following the installation of our publicly accessible defibrillator and bleed control kit outside Cerebral Palsy Midlands in Harborne.

Our thinking was simple:
Having a defibrillator outside the building is one thing; making sure our team feels confident enough to respond in an emergency is just as important.

Across three practical training sessions with Sacha Quinney from Eden Custom Training, our team got properly stuck in!

We practised CPR and using a training defibrillator/AED, responding to choking, recovery positions, casualty assessment and treating serious bleeding. We also explored exactly what is inside our bleed control kit and how the equipment could be used in an emergency.

A massive thank you also goes to the West Midlands Casualty Simulation Group, whose volunteers acted as casualties and allowed us to put our new skills into practice in realistic scenarios. They certainly kept us on our toes!

The training was also adapted to the needs of CPM. Some of the adults we support have dysphagia (swallowing difficulties), so recognising and responding to choking is particularly important for our team.

Hopefully, we’ll never need to use some of these skills in a real emergency, but we feel much more confident and prepared if we ever do.
