This month's meeting taught our WI members and visitors how to make cards using a method called Iris Folding. Huge thanks to Hannah Smith and Sarah Rankine for "showing and leading the produciton." Another great skill to learn and everyone came away with a lovely crafted card.

Our next meeting is our Summer Social on Tuesday 16 June🌞 Then on Tuesday 21 July, we welcome talented local psychological thriller author Olivia Rytwinski

🌻Eight of our members had a really lovely day at the Scarborough spring conference yesterday. After WI news, the speakers were a comic and nostalgia expert who took us back to childhood to remember our favourite comics and the subtle impact on our early life's including Twinkle, Bunty and Jackie which boys frequently read to learn about girls!

Actress, presenter and award winning author of the greatest s*x tips in the world, Julie Peasgood, took us through her life from being the Grimsby born daughter of a circus performer through her stage, film and TV career including Emmerdale, Loose Women, RSC to her recent 104th cruise! A very enjoyable day spent in very good company.

🏠 In 2012, York Central WI started their meetings in The Treasurer's House, the National Trust property in Ogleforth, York. We were invited to decorate a room in the house for Christmas. We dedicated a display to commemorating the achievement of Jane Squire, the mathematician who discovered how to calculate longitude.

As well as making scores of numbers for the display, WI member Denise Scott co-ordinated and organised the room set up, WI member Hannah Smith embroidered the table centre-piece and the fireplace piece was designed and made by Denise. WI member Gill Potts donated the glass beads, and the remainder were supplied by the National Trust.

Eight of the York Central ladies went along to assist with setting up the display and the clever stitchers spent a morning stitching the numbers to the fabric.

The Christmas display is open to the public during the winter opening hours of Treasurer's House, from 15th November until 21st December, Saturday - Wednesday. The usual admission charges will apply.
