Most carers are women and this role is often misunderstood by some as just offering help with shopping and lifts to appointments. It might start with prompting independence and over time cover a multitude of different aspects of living.

If you want to support the call for more carer friendly communities, add your name to the Carers Week digital wall and be part of a movement to help support carers across the UK.

It’s not just about increased risk of violence but also the fact days off work and lost income, family budget spent on alcohol, an excuse not to truly spend time with your children.

The FIFA world cup starts today, hosted by Mexico, the US and Canada ⚽

Sadly during major football tournaments reports of domestic abuse increase by 25%. When England plays the statistics get worse whether they win or lose.

During this FIFA World Cup we will be regularly sharing contact details for Hampshire Domestic Abuse helplines.

If you are in immediate danger call 999.

Help Us Create a Sea of Poppies for Southsea Castle!

Help Us Create a Powerful Tribute for Portsmouth’s Centenary Year

In 2026, Portsmouth celebrates 100 years of city status, and we’re inviting our community to help create something truly special.

Sea of Poppies for Southsea Castle is a community-led remembrance installation that will transform Southsea Castle with thousands of handmade red poppies, created by knitters and crocheters from across Portsmouth and beyond.

Each poppy represents a personal act of remembrance, gratitude, and reflection. Together, these individual creations will form a stunning visual display, cascading from the historic castle walls in a powerful tribute to those who served and sacrificed.

Today’s meeting was a last minute change of speaker. David Gane introduced us to psychology and statistics. We were introduced to the late Hans Rosling, who in 2015 in Stockholm founded Gapminder. Our view of our world today can be based around fear, expert opinion etc. We hold on to basic instincts around safety, even though we no longer live in a prehistoric world. This means that we may not know the real truth. Threat vs Perceived Threat. The world may be safer than what it was 100 years ago, due to technological change, but we may think that disasters are more likely. We may think that girls are not given the same access to education when in fact the world’s poorer countries have worked harder to improve education for their children.

Certainly an important conversation for all.

Certainly an important conversation for all.

Members are now debating Resolution 1: Accessible Toilets, proposed by Denise from Marsh Maidens WI, Suffolk East Federation.

WI members from across England and Wales have the chance to vote on the resolutions that will shape our campaigning.
