Sometimes it’s nice not to have a speaker - it enables us to have a more relaxed social evening. Last night we welcomed more visitors and enjoyed lots of friendly chat whilst decorating lovely little wind chimes. A member had also brought in gingerbread biscuits to decorate and then enjoy over a cuppa. Our next meeting is 13th May - visitors are welcome. More info nearer the time 🙂

In support of the current NFWI Resolution ‘Bystanders can be Lifesavers’ we invited a local First Aid trainer to our meeting this week. Ron explained the difference between a heart attack and cardiac arrest, and demonstrated CPR on adult, child and baby manikins. He then showed us how to use a defibrillator. We were reassured to hear that the 999 call handler remains on the phone talking through the whole process until paramedics arrive. We then were able to practise on the manikins. Ron recommended the British Heart Foundation free 15 minute training video - all you need is a cushion and a mobile phone! See link below

Happy .

International Women’s Day is a time to come together and recognise the incredible achievements of women everywhere. This year, we’re shining a spotlight on the inspiring initiatives led by WI members who have generously given their time, care and skills to support other women.

ICYMI, we hosted our International Women’s Day webinar on Friday, and you can watch it back and hear these powerful stories:

Jane Sorrell and Bramhall WI (Cheshire Federation) shared how one speaker inspired meaningful action to support women in prison including establishing a regular book club.

Nicola Awni from GAP WI (Gwent Federation), a proud member of the Not in My Name Community Champions, who shared her passion for the campaign and the impactful work happening in Wales.

Jane Squirrell from Werrington WI (Huntingdon & Peterborough Federation), who spoke about setting up a prison crafting session – how it began, what they’ve learned, and the powerful impact crafting has had for both members and female residents.

Together, these stories show the strength of women coming together to uplift and empower others. Thank you for all you do, as members, supporters and friends of the NFWI to celebrate and inspire women everywhere.

For our first meeting of 2026 we invited Mike Ogden to give us an introduction to Tai Chi/Qi Gong, either seated or standing. He also told us of the health benefits of this mind/body practice, and we all really enjoyed the session, some of us determined to start learning it on a regular basis. The evening just flew, we were so engrossed, a good start to our 2026 programme.
Next month we will have a hands on demo of CPR and the use of a defibrillator, to support the current National Federation of WI’s Resolution ‘Bystanders can be Lifesavers’.

Our last meeting of the year was our Christmas Party, what a fun evening we had! The Christmas ‘Left Right’ game resulted in a little chaos but we got there in the end 😂 Generous members had baked mince pies, made diamond art keyrings for all, arranged a craft session making little beaded wreaths, filled gift bags, crafted lovely table decorations, and shopped for festive food and drink to be enjoyed by all.
Others contributed by just being there, making sure that the evening was filled with friendship and laughter. Happy Christmas to all our followers, and best wishes for 2026.
Our next meeting is 11th February, more details nearer the time!

It was our Annual Meeting this week - Val was elected our new President, after Jan stood down for a well deserved rest after serving 6 years. After the business we all had a go at Diamond Art Christmas decorations - something different for the majority of us, which we all really enjoyed doing! Several members were heard to say it would be a new hobby for them during the winter 🙂

We had a wonderful talk last night from a fellow WI member Karin Snape, who told us of her epic walk from John O’Groats to Lands End in 2023, raising money for Guide Dogs. What an inspirational and fun lady. Her fundraising has raised over £45,000 so far, well done Karin!

A sugarcraft workshop was enjoyed by all at our meeting last night, led by Lynda and Gill. It was great fun, and the finished little Teddy Bears are so cute!
Our next meeting is 8th October, when Karin will tell us of her epic walk from John O’Groats to Lands End in aid of Guide Dogs.
