Tonight the scouts got the opportunity to go air riffle shooting at 8th Wallsend. We started by having a safety talk about how to safely use the riffles and about how they can be dangerous if not used properly. Each of the scouts then had 3 turns at shooting the riffles. Each turn the scouts improved and got a better score.

A big thank you to Norman and the other leaders from 8th that allowed us to do this.

PLEASE CAN YOU HELP!

We are looking for people to join our committee. Please if you or anyone you know would like to join please get in contact.

You will need a scout dbs check and then some small online training taking no longer than 15-30 minutes.

What will the role include?
If you become a part of our committee then you will need to attend 3 meetings a year to ensure the safe running of the group.

2nd Howdon Scouts

We have spaces in all of our sections for starts after the holidays. If your child is not 4 yet still put them on our waiting list and we will contact you when they are 4. We meet every Tuesday in term time at St Paul’s community partnership Willington quay.

We are also looking for any adult volunteers either to be leaders, helpers or committee members. Please just get in touch if you would be interested for more information.

Update on our boat clearance in the church grounds. Last night our cubs, scouts and some of our young leaders cleared nearly all of the weeds they even found some onions buried under there. We completed the night with camp fire songs and smores as a well done reward. Well done to them all. I did have to laugh at one of our young leaders Tikki (frankie) telling us all about her beautiful prom dress while having mud across her face from digging and her fingers covered in marshmallow from sticking biscuits around toasted marshmallows but we are sure it's a beautiful as she said. Little bits to finish off then on to paining after the holiday for the beavers. St Pauls, Willington Quay

Tonight we started work on a whole group community impact project. In the grounds of the church there is an old rowing boat which is very over grown since we moved in I have wanted to do something with it so tonight the cubs and scouts started pulling out the weeds by torch light as when we originally planned to do it now i thought it would be lighter. We will continue next week then after Easter the beavers are going to paint it and the squirrels are going to plant new flowers in it as part of their let it grow badge. Today we had 5 cubs and 1 scout join in with Tynemouth District swimming gala. We had some who have swam for years and some who have only swam for a few months but they all tried so hard. Dom our scout who attended was awarded scout who tried the hardest. We are so proud of them all.
Hopefully this will become an annual thing again as it was in the past and more cubs and scouts will join in next year.

Today is Squirrel appreciation day, a day for the world to appreciate our furry friends but a day for us to celebrate our youngest members and the joy they bring to our group.

From conversations like
"do you want to see my spin"
"can you see these trainers they make me run really fast do you want to see"
"capybara's make me happy"

to my favourite
me : "Leela had to go to work tonight so you have me"
squirrel: "but this is Leela's work"

they keep us on our toes and always provide a laugh, full of fun and always willing to try everything we throw at them.

Well done squirrels you shine bright in the scouting world
