WE HAVE LIGHT 🎉💡
Huge thank you to Built to Last Electrical Solutions for the super quick response and replacement switch today after our little lighting drama this morning 😅 Absolute lifesavers.
AND… today we’re also celebrating one of our favourite humans turning 18 🥹🎈
Keira first came to us as a college student… and never escaped 😂 She chose to stick around and has become such a huge part of the day-to-day running of the store and baby bank. She’s an amazing support to the team, brilliant with other students who come in, and genuinely such a lovely friend to everyone here.
We’re incredibly proud of the young woman she’s become.

Today’s challenge at the shop: trying to convince the lights to actually turn on 😭💡

We’re currently waiting for our emergency electrician after the key switch decided to retire without giving notice!

We should be back open shortly, but donations can still be dropped off at the back door in the meantime 🙌

Running a community store is seriously just 50% helping people and 50% fighting random building issues at this rate 😂

We’re really in need of a few specific items at the moment to help families 💚
If anyone has any of the following sitting unused at home, we would be hugely grateful for donations:

Changing table (for a lady unable to bend to the floor)
Safety gates
Prams/pushchairs
Nappies size 4+
Full cots with all parts and fixings
Shoes (baby through to adult sizes)

Every single donation genuinely helps a local family who may be struggling, starting over, or simply trying to get by.

Drop-offs can be made at Tyneside Community Store & Baby Bank, 73–75 High Street West, Wallsend, Monday–Saturday, 9:30am–2:30pm 💚

Rear access is available via the side of Ritz Wetherspoons from The Forum/GP car park.

We’re so excited to now be stocking the delicious frozen meals made by the team at Cedarwood Trust through their Nourish project 🍽️💚

Restaurant-quality meals, made locally, using fresh ingredients, and you can absolutely taste the difference. We’ve tested most of them ourselves (strictly for quality control obviously 👀😂) and every single one has been lovely.
Perfect for busy families, older relatives, work lunches, easy tea nights, or just those days where you cannot be bothered to cook but still want something proper and filling.

We’ve got LOADS in stock today in the freezer including:
✨ Lasagne
✨ Cottage Pie
✨ Mac & Cheese
✨ Chicken Curry & Rice
✨ Sausage, Mash & Gravy
✨ Chilli & Rice
✨ Puddings too!

Right then… genuine guesses only 👀
How much do we reckon this attempted shoplift would’ve cost? 😂
I wish we didn't have to deal with this but it's daily.
If you’re genuinely struggling, there are services, support workers, foodbanks and our own baby bank that can help and we’ll always point people in the right direction where we can.
But trying to walk out with half a children’s wardrobe and a Moana bag from a community store is wild behaviour 😭
Reminder that our prices are already ridiculously low, and the money raised literally helps keep the baby bank running for families in crisis 💚

Last night we were invited along to meet the incredible SI Tynemouth, Whitley Bay & District Soroptimists and hear more about the work they do supporting and empowering women and families across the world. To sit in a room full of such kind, compassionate, inspiring people was a real privilege 💛
We shared the story of our baby bank, collected some absolutely beautiful donations, and met so many lovely people. The whole evening just felt full of genuine care for others and reminded me how powerful community can be when good people come together.
We feel really proud to now be connected with this group over the year ahead, and so grateful that they’re choosing to support baby banks and families like ours. Support like this means far more than people probably realise.
A really special evening by the sea with people who genuinely want to make the world a little better. Very lucky to be part of it. 💕

Today has been incredibly busy for our Baby Bank, and we’ve been overwhelmed with referrals from families in crisis across the Tyneside region.

Because of this surge in need, we have now completely run out of several essential items:

Urgently needed:
Nappies size 4
Nappies size 6–8
Baby wipes
Maternity pads
Sanitary wear
Toiletries (baby, children & adult)
Weaning items (cups, bowls, spoons)

Every single donation makes an immediate difference to local families who are struggling right now. Many of today’s referrals are for babies and children with very little in place, and these basics help ensure dignity, comfort and care during difficult times.

If you are able to help, donations can be dropped off during our opening hours:
Monday – Saturday
9:30am – 2:30pm
Rear entrance (for drop-offs): located to the side of Ritz Wetherspoons, accessible from The Forum / GP car park.

Even though our doors close at 2:30pm each day… the referrals don’t stop!
In just the last few hours, we’ve received four referrals from local signposting services, many working alongside the NHS, for essential baby items. That's everything from hospital bags and toiletries, nappies and clothing, to prams, cots, mattresses and high chairs.
Every family’s situation is different. Some are first-time mums. One is a surprise pregnancy 😳. All need support.
Our service doesn’t end when the shop closes. Referrals come in at all hours, and we respond whenever we can. If something is truly urgent, we have even been known to head out in the middle of the night.
We do what we can with the resources and volunteers we have, because when a family is in crisis, that need doesn’t wait until morning.
If you work with families and identify someone who needs help right now, please visit our website and submit a referral.
