CDASS is specialist support service for children and young people aged 7 to 16 who witness domestic abuse.

Good news for domestic abuse survivors and their children 💙

The UK Government has confirmed an additional £19 million to help councils provide safe housing for survivors of domestic abuse enabling support for over 4,900 more households over the next three years.

This funding forms part of the broader Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) strategy, reinforcing the commitment to ensure that people fleeing abuse can access refuge accommodation, security upgrades, sanctuary schemes and the support they need to rebuild their lives.

At CDASS, we know that children are victims in their own right when domestic abuse affects a household and safe, stable housing is a key part of keeping families protected and supported. 💙

Christmas should be a time of safety and warmth, but for many families, the festive period brings increased stress, isolation, and risk.

Charities are forecasting up to a 50% rise in domestic abuse calls over Christmas, as financial pressure and more time spent at home create a “pressure cooker” environment (source: ITV NEWS)

Domestic abuse doesn’t just impact adults; children living in these homes feel the effects too.
This season, let’s remember they need support, understanding, and safety now more than ever 💙

Today marks the start of the 16 Days of Activism; a global campaign calling for the prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls.

Women around the world are subject to some of the greatest forms of violence and this violence doesn’t just harm adults. Children living in abusive homes see it, hear it, feel it and they are victims in their own right - at CDASS, we recognise this deeply.

We remain committed to providing child-centred emotional support, safe connection, and early intervention for children affected by domestic abuse.

Together, let’s amplify their voices and work towards a future free from violence for women and girls across the world!

The NSPCC has recorded a worrying surge in concerns about children facing domestic abuse.

As Christmas approaches, with longer nights and weeks away from school many children will face even greater risk.

A young person contacting Childline shared:
“Over Christmas it got physical… I see the bruises afterwards. I can’t sleep.”

No child should feel this way.
This winter, let’s keep children’s safety and voices at the centre.

CDASS is here to support children aged 7-16 who are affected by domestic abuse.

🌲Christmas isn’t joyful for every child.

For many children living with domestic abuse, the holidays can be a time of fear instead of celebration 💔

•⁠ ⁠In 2024, the NSPCC reported over 7,000 calls and messages about children living in homes with domestic abuse - the highest number on record.
•⁠ ⁠Around 1 in 5 children in the UK have lived with an adult who perpetrates domestic abuse.

If you’re worried about a child affected by domestic abuse, you can make a referral to CDASS through our website - our Talking Really Helps programme provides free, child-centred emotional support.
