A huge thank you to everyone who came along and helped on Saturday for The Gralloch Ultra cycling event.

We really enjoyed welcoming the riders through and it was lovely to see everyone coming together to support the day. The riders and event team have passed on their thanks and appreciation to everyone involved 👏

Just a wee reminder, the Gralloch Ultra Cycling Festival is passing through Barr this weekend. Come out and give the cyclists a big Barr welcome - all are welcome to line the route and cheer them on. Whether the sun's shining or not, it's a great reason to get outside. See you there!

Hi folks,

A long distance gravel cycling event called the 'Gralloch Ultra' will be passing through Barr on Saturday 16th May. Starting and finishing in Gatehouse of Fleet, the riders will cover 323km, mostly on unsurfaced forest tracks. Full details of the event and a route map can be found here.

Barr has been invited to host a 'feed zone' in the village hall, reached after 222km. Catering for up to 300 cyclists passing through on the day (from lunchtime to late evening), the feed zone will provide much needed food and drinks as well as the last shelter for riders to rest and recuperate before taking on the final 111km return leg to Gatehouse of Fleet.

The event organisers will provide raw materials for the catering. They have also agreed to give us a substantial donation for hosting the feed zone that will benefit both the Community Hub project and this year's Barr gala (through the commercial hall hire charge payable to the BCA).

What we need are volunteers to help prepare food in advance (mainly making 300 sandwiches using the raw materials provided by the event organiser) and also by taking turns to help oversee the feed zone during the event (mainly replenishing food and drinks supplies).

If you can help, please let me know (contact details below) or put your name and contact details on a volunteer list that I'll leave in the hall foyer and in the shop from tomorrow morning.

If you are unable to help, please come along on the day anyway and see what it takes to cycle 323km on dirt tracks (and we'll sell you tea and cake!).

Regards

We’re looking for members who’d like to get more involved in the Hub project 🏫

There are opportunities to step forward as trustees or to support as volunteers in a more informal way. You don’t need experience, just an interest in helping the Hub grow and support the community.

Key dates:
• Trustee nominations close 22 April
• Appointed trustee nominations (from qualifying groups) close 27 April

If you’d like to find out more or have an informal chat, I’ll be at Monday Club on 20th April and happy to speak with anyone in person.

You can also message me directly or reply to the AGM email if you’d like more information.

It would be great to have some new voices and ideas involved in shaping the future of the Hub!

If you haven’t already, you should be receiving your Ballot papers in the post. This is to see whether or not you agree that funding will be made available for the Hub Project from the Hadyard Hill Legacy Fund. It's vital to the Project that the Ballot Form is completed and sent back using the enclosed stamped envelope as soon as possible. Without this funding it will be difficult for the project to proceed. There's one Ballot Form per household.

The SCIO trustees.
