Hi folks,
A long distance gravel cycling event called the 'Gralloch Ultra' will be passing through Barr on Saturday 16th May. Starting and finishing in Gatehouse of Fleet, the riders will cover 323km, mostly on unsurfaced forest tracks. Full details of the event and a route map can be found here.
Barr has been invited to host a 'feed zone' in the village hall, reached after 222km. Catering for up to 300 cyclists passing through on the day (from lunchtime to late evening), the feed zone will provide much needed food and drinks as well as the last shelter for riders to rest and recuperate before taking on the final 111km return leg to Gatehouse of Fleet.
The event organisers will provide raw materials for the catering. They have also agreed to give us a substantial donation for hosting the feed zone that will benefit both the Community Hub project and this year's Barr gala (through the commercial hall hire charge payable to the BCA).
What we need are volunteers to help prepare food in advance (mainly making 300 sandwiches using the raw materials provided by the event organiser) and also by taking turns to help oversee the feed zone during the event (mainly replenishing food and drinks supplies).
If you can help, please let me know (contact details below) or put your name and contact details on a volunteer list that I'll leave in the hall foyer and in the shop from tomorrow morning.
If you are unable to help, please come along on the day anyway and see what it takes to cycle 323km on dirt tracks (and we'll sell you tea and cake!).
