🤩🏆It’s been an Historic Weekend for Verwood’s Brass Bands at the West of England Regional Finals🤩🏆
🎵Verwood’s musical community is celebrating an extraordinary weekend after both of the town’s contesting brass bands achieved landmark results at the West of England Regional Finals—some of the most significant in the town’s 162year banding history.
🏆🥉Verwood Concert Brass delivered a stunning performance in the Championship Section, earning third place and qualifying for the National Brass Band Championships at London’s Royal Albert Hall this October.
It marks the first time in the band’s entire 162 year history that they have reached the national finals at this elite level. For any band, the Royal Albert Hall represents a pinnacle moment; for a small town ensemble, it is a truly inspirational achievement.
🏆🥈Not to be outshone, Verwood Town Band secured second place in the Second Section, qualifying for the National Finals in York this September. This is their fourth consecutive year reaching the finals—a remarkable run that highlights their growing strength. Their success also earns them promotion to the First Section, completing a rise that many bands spend decades striving for.
🎼🎵🎺
These achievements are rooted in Verwood’s unusually rich musical structure.
The town supports not just one band, but four, with Concert Brass, Town Band, Community Band, and a thriving Training Band creating a pathway for musicians of all ages.
This commitment to developing players and nurturing community music has laid the foundations for the town’s current success.
🏆🤩At the centre of this exceptional progress is Musical Director Kevin Smith, whose guidance has shaped both contesting bands over many years.
His leadership has taken the Town Band from the Third Section to the First—an ascent rarely seen at such pace—and has now steered Verwood Concert Brass to the most prestigious stage in the brass banding world.
📢Chairman Helen Dunnings praised the scale of the achievement, saying
“What our bands have accomplished this weekend is nothing short of historic. It reflects years of dedication from players, volunteers, and our whole community. Verwood has proved that a town with heart, ambition, and teamwork can achieve something truly extraordinary.”
🏆🥈🥉To have both bands qualify for national finals in the same year is an exceptional moment—one that highlights talent, hard work, and a community that truly believes in the power of music.
🌟As Verwood looks ahead to York in September and the Royal Albert Hall in October, the town has every reason to feel proud and excited for what comes next.🌟
