‼️🌳 Join a team creating greener places for people and nature! 🌳‼️

Tees Community Forest is looking for an organised, proactive and personable Finance & Administration Officer to support the delivery of our ambitious woodland creation programme across Tees Valley.

As part of England's Community Forests – a national network of 15 Community Forests – we work with landowners, local authorities, businesses and communities to create new woodlands, improve biodiversity and connect more people with nature.

Together, the network has planted more than 10 million trees since the Trees for Climate programme began in 2020, delivering 35% of all Government-funded tree planting in England. During the 2024/25 planting season alone, over 3.1 million trees and 2,500 hectares of new woodland and hedgerows were created, while engaging more than 19,000 local people in woodland and community projects.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role behind the scenes, ensuring our projects run smoothly and our funding programmes are delivered efficiently.

Fantastic news to share 🌳 Huge congratulations to Farming on being named a finalist for the Durham, Tyne and Wear Tye Trophy!

We were proud to work alongside Tilhill Forestry and Carrsides Farming on this scheme, showing what's possible when woodland creation is designed to work with a farm business - not against it. Commercial farming and nature recovery aren't competing priorities, they can genuinely strengthen each other when the design is right.

Our Project Officer, Owen Smith, guided the scheme through the rigorous regulatory process to get it off the ground, and Tees Community Forest is funding the scheme for 15 years - a long-term commitment to seeing it thrive.

Great to see the hard work of everyone involved recognised, including Jack Wilson and the Tilhill team, plus M Dodd Countryside Services and Trademark Forestry Limited for delivering the scheme on the ground.

Community grants now open in Hartlepool!

We’re proud to be part of the multi-partner Tree Equity for Hartlepool project, and we’re excited to share that grants of up to £2,000 are now available for local groups and organisations.

Funded by The National Lottery Herittage Fund and led by Trees for Cities, these grants will support projects and activities that:

✅ Get communities involved in the town’s urban forest
✅ Support tree planting initiatives
✅ Help care for and maintain trees

From community events and creative activities to planting and long-term care—this is a great opportunity to help create a greener, healthier, and more equitable Hartlepool.

The team had a great day out assisting Durham Wildlife Trust at Mossdale measuring some beautiful Elm trees for a special purpose…

The Great British Elm Experiment, launched by The Conservation Foundation is a long-term project aimed at reintroducing disease-resistant native elm trees to the UK landscape.

By propagating saplings from mature trees that survived Dutch Elm Disease, which killed over 25 million trees, the experiment seeks to understand resistance and restore biodiversity.

It was amazing to see how well the trees were doing thanks to all the hard work from DWT.

Hopefully this means we’ll start seeing more resistant elms back in our woodland mixes in the future thanks to this incredible project.
